    Calf with a cleft lip/nostril

We've had 2 instances of cleft palate, both calves needed no assistance and grew like their peers and filled the freezer in the end. Sure a shocker the first time I saw the first one, she has been sucking and turned to look at me with her tongue hanging out her nose looked like!

    How did this happen??

We spent big money on a cow that's given us 2 dead calves, all because of her never pushing as fas as we can tell. Uterine inertia? She's only around cuz she adopted calves both times. This year she's going to market once her calf is weaned.

    Full term hairless calf??

@Hamiam that's cool your calf made it to auction. The vet here said she didn't think this one would grow any hair, and best option for her would be freezer beef if she lives that long.. and by the way her mouth is normal far as I can tell

    Full term hairless calf??

Maybe I'll fashion a sweater for her somehow at least. Yes I sent that pic to the vet and she said it's a hypotrichosis calf! I should check her mouth, I'd have to compare it to a normal calf since I don't really know what I'm looking for. The vet also said not to breed the cow to the same bull...

    Full term hairless calf??

I was just out on night check and found a new basically hairless calf. It was trying to suck. Looks full size. Simmental cross angus breed. Has anyone seen the likes? What's gonna happen? The back of its hocks are pink and its tail has a wee tuft on the end. The mama was cleaning n the calf...

    Critique this breed mix

I like to keep beef cross heifers from my milk cows. The Ayrshire descendants are all pitch black (the first girl was from an angus) but still milk like crazy and keep good condition among the beef herd. My oldest is soon to be 11 and looking sleek and raised one of the biggest steers this past...

How's the twinning going for everyone

Out of our 28 we had one set. One cow popped a tiny dummy calf (alive) but we had to help it out of its misery. Our cow that had twins had a set last year as a heifer too. If we hadn't noticed her calving we would have lost both sets. The first set was 4 legs coming at once and the second both...

    Fill in bull

I really appreciate that info. Gonna make sure we watch for that when we shop bulls. I don't think we would have picked this guy out ever, just cuz he doesn't look right but I wouldn't have been able to say what was wrong. And the breeder thought he'd be fine with heifers so that's where he was...

    Fill in bull

He's at least half Simm. His sire fullblood Simmental, same sire as the first one we wanted. No idea what breeding his dam is could be full Simm for all we know. I'd rather have a bull I know about actually. This guy will probably be returned. Lol ok got my salt shaker ready just in case
