    F*@#ing Cows

Agreed. Had 2 4 weight calves eat the upper marker light wiring out of the inside of the trailer on a 2 hour trip. Welcome to the club Jehosephat!

    6.2 Ford

Not to change subject but I am an ex Chevy customer as well. I will never purchase another GM product in my life. The bailout, making the 5.3 with known problems (we replaced 18 of the 23 our company owned between 09 and 13) and now laying off 14,000 people. I’ve just had enough.

    Gate opening mess

I’ve done it both ways with success. In my corral, I decided to get the topsoil and manure off of the surface as I believe cattle to be harder on a surface than about anything on the planet. But the roads and driveways I’ve done we laid the fabric right on top.

    Gate opening mess

I second the fabric. I put it down in my corral with 8” of stone and it’s like concrete even with all this rain. Last winter the cows were belly deep and the calves couldn’t even come in. I have also used it at our church to put a road in a pretty swampy area and it has held up great for the...

    Crawlspace Excavation

Awesome. Thanks guys. Did some of the posts disappear? I swear we had a conversation about a sharp shooter shovel?

    Automatic waterer

Mirafount lil spring 3900 is what I just bought. Has a removable tank heater which is why I got it. I can replace easily if it goes bad. I do not believe the Ritchie’s have a removable heating element. I also added a secondary ground rod to go along with my GFI outlet. But as Raven said, a good...

    Crawlspace Excavation

We live in an old farmhouse that was built in 1890. I have a cellar that has about a 6’ ceiling directly under the kitchen which is essentially in the center of the house. Under the living room and dining room I have a crawlspace that is only about 12”-16” high. Somehow they managed the fish the...

    Borrowed neighbors bull

We do something similar by borrowing a bull from the neighbor. He always brings us his best and always fanatic calves. He always tells me I’m doing him the favor by feeding his big a$$ in the middle of winter. I have borrowed many things from the neighbors and a homemade pie sure goes straight...

How do you get a carcass graded?

The processor I use will hold them overnight and they do all their killing at 6 am the following day. Not sure if that is due to the adrenaline factor or not.

    Thinking about a new tractor

We will see what kind of fantastic deals they have next week at farm science review. But a little more money and 2 years less financing is not enough for me to “go green”. If my grandpa heard me say that he would shoot me!

    Cleaning a tractor diesel tank

Agreed and also run a can of biocide through it once a year. The chunks/gunk is probably algae.

    Thinking about a new tractor

I saw on Deere’s website they only off 0% for 60 months. More payment than I would like. If JD Equipment around here will sell me one for that price I will buy you a steak dinner......my steak of course

    Bearing Buddies

Texasmark hit it on the head. They are designed to boat trailers. Sticking hot bearings in cold water does play some he!! on wheel bearings. I’m an overgreaser as well but I’m in recovery lol. With the buddies, I grease until the plate starts to move outward then stop. I usually put 3 full pumps...

I agree, great information. Thanks TC

    Bull got in with heifers

I wholeheartedly agree on the successful part. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t know all the specifics of his business but he’s said if he has to pull a calf or “one looks at me a way I don’t like” he culls. He did loose several calves this winter but they were unassisted and born...

    Thinking about a new tractor

I’m in the market for a new tractor as well (spring purchase) and everyone around here has recommended a Kubota. I went to the local dealer and told them exactly what I’m using it for and they recommended an MX5200. They said most small cattlemen like myself have been happy with that model...

    Bull got in with heifers

On subject but off topic, I have a neighbor that has about 250 brood cows and he mentioned to me in the past that as long as they are 800 lbs at breeding, he doesn’t care how young they get bred. Seems to defy conventional wisdom but he is highly successful and has a fantastic herd. All...

    Massey Hydraulic System

Thanks JL Trent. That was a good read. I spoke with a guy I work with that restores old tractors and he turned me on to a guy at a Massey dealer that he knew that had been through a lot of Massey’s. This fella sent me some pages from his manual (which looked 50 years old). Ended up it was an...

    Massey Hydraulic System

Recently my Massey 65 3 point quit lifting bales. It happened all of the sudden. The 3 pt would lift the bale spear but wouldn’t pick up a bale or any implements. I figured it was the hydraulic pump. So I ordered a new one ($206 not too hateful). Installed the new pump, which was very easy and...
