    Plant Identification

Looks like it may be a smartweed of some kind. Does it grow anywhere in particular or just everywhere?

    Who doesn't fertilize?

I've always heard and read that if you spray soybeans with a product that will put some burn on them, such as Cobra, They will yield 2-3 bushel more than those that are not. The stress makes the plant double down and work harder to produce. It's the same principle as this.

my dad visited his buddy. his buddy just got a dui on his lawn mower

In what part of Kentucky does something like that happen? From what I've seen, Kentucky ain't fell off the deep end like Illinois yet, but maybe you all are catching up!

    Who doesn't fertilize?

In this old world, you don't get something for nothing, so some form of fertilizer better be used. Removing the weeds is nearly as important, and it's best to give the ground some rest. I started renting a pasture in 2013 that had briar patches over my head and fifty foot around, and the rest...

Pretty much the same here, but we're pretty close to the same latitude.

Got a bad load of Fertilizer

Sounds like an application problem if it was streaked behind the truck. If the fan speed is too high on the spreader, it can pulverize certain fertilizer and not throw it far enough to make a good pattern. Also, build up where it falls from the box to the fans can cause problems as well. It...

    Oak Tree MIG?

Livestock affects the quality of timber, so it is natural to assume they are hard on the health of the tree.

    Cattle Passion/Money

Nice Josey Wales quote! Anything in agriculture will make you rich, if you have enough time. Farming, cattle, etc. builds wealth, not always cash. An old man in my area who owns a couple thousand acres and probably 300 head of cows said cattle are like a savings account. They make you a little...

    Butchering a 3 year old

Thank you all. Looks like the worst I can end up with is a bunch of hamburger, and that's not a bad thing.

    Butchering a 3 year old

I plan on getting her nice and fat before we butcher. If the meat is a little tough, I guess I could always tenderize them.

I'm working on that. I just got an IPhone last week. Is there a good way to upload pictures from it? I tried to log onto my CT account from it, but I've lost my password. When I'm on here it's from my PC, which logs in automagically.

    Line 1 Herefords

There were three calves on the ground when I brought them home, and I've had another since. I really like the way these cows worry over their babies, they keep close tabs on them. I'm very happy so far, I'm going back to the breeder next week to look at a bull. Since he's cut back his herd...

    Butchering a 3 year old

I have a 3 year old open heifer that needs to go. I don't imagine she'd bring much at the stockyards, so I'm considering fattening her up and having her slaughtered. Does anyone have much experience with butchering older cows? I've always had younger steers, I know every animal is different...

    15$ min wage in Illinois

There's no jobs in our part of the state anyway, this will just run more out. On a positive note, Woolsey Energy is going to start drilling horizontal oil wells in White County! I leased them some of my ground(Edwards & Wayne County) a few years ago, maybe I can be a Jed Clampett before it's...
