    Seed to deep?

Yup, probably lack of rain because you would have some seed close to the surface. Last year during the drought it took 2 months for mine to come up. Very little survived coming up so late in the season.

    Well Pump Issue

That's odd, mine quit pumping Saturday after the Friday snow day. I sanded the contacts on the pressure switch and they still didn't really look like good contacts. Called TSC and they had a switch, $20. Called home depot and they had a control box, $80. Replaced both and problem solved. Only...

Pull handles back and hang in a loop.

    Temporary fencing

I use the black and yellow poly wire inside of my permanent fencing to rotate daily, 10 acres with 16 sections each with access to woods and creek. I've used it as my only fencing also. No problems once their trained to it. I don't move wire daily. Just open and close each section when rotating...

Recommended irrigation options for small acreage

I tried during last years drought. Bought 600' of 3/4" hose $500, booster pump $200, t-post sprinklers from TSC. I tried on about 3 acres. Didn't see enough good results to do it again. Should have just spent that $ on hay....had to buy hay and feed it afterwards anyway. Hope you'll have better...

    Federal grant

Here in Georgia USDA offers drought relief $, depending on acres and head count. Taxable income. NRCS offers percentage financial assistance for cross fencing, wells, freeze proof water tanks, erosion control, etc. They said beginner farmers, less than 10 years, could qualify for up to 90...

    Drawback to good grass

35 Head....! Sounds like they migrated to greener pastures

    Rye grass

Yup, graze it now while you got it, down to 4-5" for regrowth. I rotational graze and saw about 1-2" growth 2-3 days after moving them.

The grass is starting to grow in N. GA.

NE Georgia here and it's a relief to finally see greenup after last year. Got the rest of my rotational grazing wire up over the weekend. 10 Acres cut into 16 pieces now. I drilled oats and fescue in October and got rain in December. Also have volunteer rye and broadcast clover in February.

So how do you do it

I pile it up with the loader for a few weeks then move it to my garden spot before discing and tilling. Then drag haying area to smooth it out.

Welp, that didn't go too good

Modified by taking the axle out and flipping end to end so it turns the right direction, pulling instead of pushing. I didn't want to use my 3 point spreader and tear up young fescue and oats since it's finally growing some.

Welp, that didn't go too good

I'll shorten the tongue before I use it again so it won't be so tipsy.

Welp, that didn't go too good

I spread mine a couple weeks ago with a modified yard spreader, mixed with play sand. 10 pounds seed to 50# sand after mixing it in a protein tub. It did pretty good but seed did float to the top a little. Just stopped and mixed by hand a few times. I just have 10 acres to do.

    Bull Proof Mineral Feeder ?

Looking like the truck tire might do the trick for protein tubs.... it fit just right.

Red skittles spill on WI highway, headed for cattle feed

I know 2 guys around here that buy feed with m&m's in it. One raising dairy calves and the other with a full operation. I didn't get it for my mammas or bull, just went with regular 14# protein from feed mill.

Need a plan of action, guys/gals.

Not around N E Georgia unless you're feeling lotto lucky with getting rain and mild temperature come late spring and summer. Fescue in fall has winter to establish roots for survival. I drilled half my oats and fescue October 1st and the rest December 1st because of no rain. It's doing ok now...

3 week old calf drinking water

Yup I separated my last one born and it's mamma because I was concerned about it nursing. Couple hours later it was nursing and I put my hand on its hind quarter to get kicked in my shin. Lucky it was a glancing blow. Their quick! I bought a shallow water trough for the calves and they were...

How long does lime take to "work"

I agree with Dave. I'd probably wait till fall or next spring and do another soil test. Lime don't show differences very quickly, slow process especially if there's a lack of rain and-or soil compaction. Our county ag agent and UGA say that when you have it where you want it to test every other...
