    calf catcher skid steer mounted

I am looking into the possibility of buying a calf catcher that can go on the front of a skid steer or tractor with the skid steer hookup. Has anyone had one? What did you like or dislike? I'm a little nervous about running over a calf if I use it on a tractor. Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

    brand recognition

My question is for those of you that buy feeders. My area doesn't require a brand on cattle, but I've been debating about getting a freeze brand for my farm anyway. My thought on this is being a smaller guy in the industry the buyers might remember a brand on calves that did well for them in a...

    Branding

It was mentioned on another thread about having lots of brands on a cow. Which leads to my question. Once the branding location heals, how do you know which is the most recent, or current owner?

    C-section

I was involved in the first c-section I have ever seen this morning. While helping the neighbors on there dairy farm the owner checked a cow that didn't seem right and called the vet. Vet tried for quite a while to get the head up but couldn't quite get it, even using a torsion tool. So the...

    case ih 4210

Just found a case 4210 for sale in my area. Seems like a pretty decent deal, 4wd, loader, cab, and 3500 hours for $26500. I know there was a post on here before about them, and the poster was not terribly impressed with it. I guess I'm wondering if anyone has anymore experience with them good...

    deutz fahr tractor

Anyone have any experience with them? Found some reviews saying they were a good tractors. There price makes them an interesting option when compared to the more known brands.

    No tail?

Had a heifer calf born friday with no tail. Has a conformation issue with her bag legs as well, but totally stunned me that she didn't have a tail. This is the 5th calf out of this cow for me and all her other calves were fine. Anyone else ever have a calf without a tail?

    Calf hook?

I thought I saw a post on here in the past about a tool to catch a calf by the leg? If I remember right it kind of a looked like a double sheperd"s hook. Anyone have something like that and like it? I'm trying to come up with a different tactic to catching calves as I just had a partial tear of...

    backup generator

So with all the destruction in Kentucky, and the area I live in had some people without power for 3 days got me thinking about backup power. I have a couple neighbors who milk cows and have there own generator to get by when the power is out. My place is wired to run off of an auxiliary...

    Ideas to catch "wild" cows

This fall my neighbor has finally convinced his 85 year old dad to sell his last cows. The cattle were very mellow according to him when his dad was healthy and would go for walks out in the pasture just to talk to them, they would be right next to you when you fed a round bale. This was 2 years...

    Hauling to pasture

I rented a pasture for the summer that's about 10 miles away from me. The plan is to haul them there next weekend. I just have 16 foot bumper trailer and was running over the possible ways of hauling the pairs up to it. There is an old cow yard at the pasture to keep everything contained until...

    Colorado: PAUSE initiative

I saw this on facebook the other day and was wondering if anyone on here, primarily from the Colorado area knows anymore about it than the article tells. Apparently there is a ballot initiative proposed being filed with the colorado secretary of state that would criminalize some...

    706 diesel

So I have just come across a 706 with a 310 german diesel that has 35 hours on a total rebuild. It's a second owner tractor used on a small farm. Tin is straight and tires are in great shape torque was redone quite a while ago, according to the owner. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on...

    bale grazing versus unrolling

There has been a lot of discussion on here about both methods. I see the bale grazing argument being used for great regrowth on wore out ground, then you watch other videos that say that bale unrolling is the way to get the best regrowth. Just kind of curious if this is more of a case by case...

    unrolling hay questions

I see all the posts about unrolling hay and it has got me wondering? People show unrolling dry hay all the time, does anyone ever unroll wet bales? Does unrolling hay benefit me as much in ground value when there is 2 feet of snow and frost as it does when there is no snow and no frost, or am I...

    TYE pasture pleaser

There is a TYE pasture pleaser in an auction in week or so. Looks to be in pretty nice shape. Been looking to get a grain drill to overseed my pastures with but my neighbor seems to think this would be a better investment for doing pastures. Anyone have one or have any experience with one...

    Hay shortage

Getting enough hay is a problem for a large number of people in western wi this year. This got me wondering how many people buy there hay as they go through the winter rather than before winter hits? I was at a beef meeting this weekend and got on the discussion of having enough hay, when...
