    Beefmaster Angus Cross

Is that because the polled gene is dominant to a horned gene from another animal or am I thinking wrong? I'm assuming the cows in the herd now are all homozygous polled since I haven't had any offspring with horns or scurs in over 10yrs. I have heard there are polled BM out there just haven't...

    Beefmaster Angus Cross

I know this is an older thread, but recently I have been intrigued and want to try a BM bull on my Red & Black Angus cows and replacement heifers. I have read a lot about the advantages that can come from the cross, as many members here have stated as well. My only concern is I spend a long time...

    I quit

I still have about 65acres to cut. Between the rains and cooler nights I haven't had a window to cut it down. I'm hoping maybe next week I can get a long enough window. Cows will be home in 4 weeks, so they may just have to eat it.

    Endovac

    Okay good to know. Thanks!

    Endovac

Thanks for the reply! I'm guessing you are giving it to new born calves as well?

    Endovac

I know this thread is old, but wanted to see how your calves and cows are doing on the Endovac Beef vaccine or did you stop using it? I'm contemplating using it this year on new born fall & winter born calves to reduce sickness. Manufacture and sales rep rave about it, but I'd like to hear from...

    Ogden Hay Rake RCR112

I have looked the Duravee 1225 but I'd rather not have another set of wheel on the rake ends if I can avoid it. However, it looked like a good rake.

    Ogden Hay Rake RCR112

I agree, Fair is I nice looking rake, but at a price tag of $32k it puts it closer in the range of a Sitrex Pro or a Darf.

    Ogden Hay Rake RCR112

What Vermeer model do you have? I've never had a problem with the tires as I'm already out pretty wide. It's always the last wheel and the frame is where it decides to ball up. So was hoping with the wheels mounted on the front of the frame it wouldn't ball. Dealer said the ground clearance is...

    Ogden Hay Rake RCR112

Ok, I know there is an older thread out there, but I recently stumbled across the Ogden Hay rakes and like how the wheels are in front of the frame versus behind like on my SR 112 Kuhn speed rake. I have mostly liked the Kuhn rake may only complaint is it struggles in thick tonnage hay. It...

When will drought culling drop cattle prices?

Sounds like you do a great job on your dry ground. I wish my luck/management of my dryland acres where that good. If it wasn't for irrigation we wouldn't put up much of anything. We do get a little rain, this year has certainly been the most rain in a long time. What is your average tonnage of...

    Baler recommendations wanted

Okay I'll chime in. I run a Kubota BV 4580 and love it. Also had a New Holland RB450 twin only and even through was a decent baler it wouldn't eat big windrows. It was also a twine only baler. Back in 2019 I traded it for my current Kubota baler. It will eat a big wide windrow and you can cruise...

When will drought culling drop cattle prices?

I'm curious what type hay are you getting off non irrigated ground? Is like Crested or Siberian Wheat grass?

When will drought culling drop cattle prices?

I also just priced a new round baler in the thought I'd run two and get the hay up faster. In addition, I priced a fairly new swather as ours is almost costing us more to maintain than it's worth. The baler was $67k and the swather was $167k...Both those will rust on the lot before I buy. Sad...

    No Snag eartags

I carry a set of binoculars in the cab, so my aging eyes can read the tags better if I can't make out a number. 🤣

    When to cut

I use the both sizes of tri-banders and I agree it can be tough with the XL on 700 pound calves, makes it interesting to fish the boys through the hole. I sometimes borrow the neighbors Pro bander if I think I may have a few that will be hard to band.

    When to cut

Maybe just bad luck on my part, but since switching to the thicker tri-bands there hasn't been any issue. Just hate how big the bander itself is compared to others when working in tight quarters. Definitely better when roped and strung out IMO.

USDA allows Red Angus in the CAB program

AAA has done a good job of standing at the podium telling producers and meat eating customers that anything other than black Angus is inferior. Anyways, long story short I ran across some nice black hided calves a couple years ago that I was hoping to buy, but got out bid. Come to find out...
