I use plastic 55 gal drums with ring type lids, I carry them to the feed mill and they fill them on the back of my truck. I normally by 5 drums at a time and when I get home I scoop it out of each barrel until half full and then slide them off the truck and keep doing this until I have them all...
I hope everyone that needed rain got their share over the last few days.
Southern Ga and Alabama got a fair amount, I am in SE Alabama and had over 11 inches since Saturday morning.
My pastures don't know how to react :)
I use my bull for 200 yard target practice,,,it doesn't phase him, I hit him right on the head one time in 100 or so trys. My pasture is more like a big sand trap, the bahia is so spotty, I am going to re seed it if we ever get any rain.
Me too Beefy, 4 to 1 ratio so far, and they don't finish off as well as the steers. I am trying to sell all my steers off the farm for freezer beef. I guess a few will have to be heifers.
The other probelm with this picture, the cost keeps going up on the input side and the fuel to get them there, who knows where that will be by the end of the year.
I am selling all the steers for freezer beef, I have had good luck selling all of them from this years crop. I am trying to sell...
I was wondering what calving season do most people use in the south east.
I am currently leaning towards going to all spring calving, I do like the fact that there is better forage for the cows and calves and the weather is much better and should reduce health issues.
Rob, I have to agree with you about the ribeye,
The ribeye he is showing looks just like the Rib"EYE" and if it was left on the bone it would have looked like the other post of whole rib steaks, and the sirloin looks like most of mine did from my steer from last year. I don't think all butchers...
I hope it works out for you and the rain keeps coming, we got over 5 inches in 30 hours from Friday afternoon until Saturday night and it was a light drizzle most of Sunday here. My wife was glad it rained when it did, I just had 10 ton spread on the pasture next to our home.
The question you...
I am sure am glad I have lots of local chicken houses, I had 30 ton of chicken liter spread for $160 per 10 ton load.
And to top off everything, cattle prices are still dropping here. I am trying to sell all I can for freezer beef.
and Thank God for this nice rain, my pasture growing finally.
They are 6x6 bales and Jimmy Jones in Ariton and he is selling it as fast as he can deliver, you want some , $50.00 per roll plus delivery Good coastal too. I have them delivered 1 roll at a time by a friend who has a larger hay dolly than I do. Mine won't touch them.
I also have a hard time...
I have ten pairs in one pasture and they get one 2000 lb roll every 7 days, the calves are getting bigger now and it will probally drop to 6 days per roll. I am not feeding any grain, just a protein tub with free choice minerals. The average is normally 25-30 lbs of hay per day per cow or...
Dun, I must agree. I had told you about a Red Angus bull I was looking at buying based on what I was told about him and his EPD numbers and when I finally got to look at him and another. I decided that they should have been steers and should have never made it to Bulls.
This young bull looks a...
Frankie, that heifer looks like a twin to my first PB Angus calf that was born in December, she is named Scooter, she can run faster than anything we own and she loves to run and kick up her heels.
I will try and get a pic when the weather gets better here and I am home when the sun is up.
