    Congenital chondrodystrophy

Anyone had experience with it, possible causes and possible solutions. A friend of ours is dealing with what it looks like it this year. Probably the 7th calf from around 20 calves. Had a couple before as well, but it is too common this year. I have my own guess, but would like to hear other...

    Calving 2024

Once again a new thread 😄 No newborns at the moment. At least I think, as will need to do an evening check soon. It's going to be an interesting season. Some new bulls used, some new crosses tried. Currently have three cows ready to pop any time. Limx in calf to lim at 286th day, pure lim...

    Charolais- local show

Yesterday had visited local beef cattle fair. This year was dedicated to the Charolais breed, so there were mostly charolais. Had a judge from France perform some mini judging on small groups of animals. First time such thing happened here, but real nice to listen to people, who know what they...

    Dairy experience

Not an ordinary post from me, but I do have personal experience with dairy. Have a group of maiden heifers, a couple cows and had two heavily bred heifers until today. Today's newborn: Dairy simmental cross heifer with her first calf- 75% simmental heifer. Husband had some plans about...

    Big dream coming true

Sooo, I personally had this dream for more than 10 years and to be able to fullfill it is way more than exciting. It was one of the first beef breeds I got to know since I got more into whole beef farming x breeding stuff. They really caught my eye then. Since then started watching some farms...

    Belgian blue cattle

As requested starting a new thread about Belgian blues. Today's newborn blue sired bull calf. Expected him to be bigger, but he should weigh abit less than 110lbs, maybe around 105lbs. 286 days gestation, unassisted, out of limxangusx cow. The sire...

    Persistent urachus

Had anyone had such thing with their calf and how to deal with it without surgery? Calf won't survive the surgery yet and I'm pretty certain that she has persistent urachus.

    Calving 2023

Starting a new thread of the new calving season. Not a nice start. The only pure lim cow and even lost her first heifer due to bloat two weeks ago. Now second calving- dead twin bulls. Found one born dead already. Second had his water bag out, got him out quickly, but he was dead too. 279 days...

    New breeding season

It's going to be my second AI season this year done by myself. Finally, this year have chosen all the bulls I wanted from the abroad AI companies and not the bulls, which were already here. Lets say, beef bulls brought here aren't of a high quality. Most bulls straws are around 2-4eur/straw. Two...

    New bull

Yesterday have brought our new bull. He's 21months old, 1675,5lbs. He looks very calm so far. He'll mostly work as a clean up bull after AI for cows. But I do think that he'll get atleast 20 cows to breed this year.

    2022, here we go again!

As every year, here is a new thread about our farm's calving season. We did start calving in December for the new season, but it was just one calf and kinda an ooops calf- weanling bull bred one cow. An official start was yesterday. So first, here is December born heifer. 116lbs, born...

    Possibly injured bull

Everyones opinion welcome. Saw this on our herd bull. Possible injury? He's been with one herd for two months, now only the 4th day in the new herd, 5 cows in heat during this time. Our thoughts that we'll need to put our own bred bull to work and this one will be culled.

    Blood

Wanted to ask if anybody had an experience with bloody discharge before calving. Have a cow, which is due after two days. Her pelvic ligaments are still pretty hard and udder isn't full yet. Today saw that she has some bright red bloody vaginal discharge. She hasn't calved for sure- still round...

    New season...again

Well, started early this time. Have moved some girls from late summer-fall calving to winter, so will have some early winter calves. The first three are due on the 19th of December, but one, which was due on the 21st, has already calved two days ago. Gotta love those colours you get from BB...

New generation of future cows is growing. These five are bred to calve starting April next year. The last one is pure limousine.

    New arrivals

Never expected that we'll try this road, but well, life is full of surprises. Have decided that won't cross angus anymore, as it's very hard to find a market for angus cross calves. Well, over a week ago received a call from one known farmer. She asked if we'd like to buy two PURE angus heifer...

    New year- new season

The first calves are due pretty soon. Have moved calving season forward, but with a weather like it's this winter, it's for the best. Almost no snow, except for a couple days and just warm temperature and rain. Mud everywhere... The feeding area is a mess... Despite all the mud, cattle are...

    New purchase

Have brought a new heifer home last week. She's belgian blue cross, not bred yet, 1300lbs. Don't mind the rope. She's been kept like this in her owner's place. She doesn't know what a hot wire is yet, but soon will need to introduce her to it.
