    look at this horse

He's straight in the stiffle and long low in his pasterns . I don't think ewe neck . I had to do a double take . I thought it was my old horse that I sold back in May . No brand on the left shoulder , not mine.

I'd love to have a herd of these!

I remember the firsts Simmentals I saw back in 77 . They were from a farm in British Columbia I believe it was Black Forest Simmentals . They were huge . The bulk of the beef cattle at our fair were Herefords with some Angus thrown in . Those Semmi's just dwarfed them. I'd never seen cattle with...

This bull is starting to get on my nerves

I don't trust dairy bulls as far as I can see them . A good friend of the family got gored and rolled out of a pasture by a gurnsey . I was around enough of them back when I was in high school working on dairys , to know they don't bluff much .

    Brucellosis (Bang's disease)

I grew up in Washington and it was a bangs free state untill a cattle trader brought in a couple hundred holstien heifers from the midwest . He sold 20 here 20 there through out the county . The infection spread like fire to herds that hadn't bought any of his cattle . The other twist is bison...

    Breed to NOT use

Hadn't looked at this thread in a while , didn't know I got somebodies huggies in a bunch . Don't take it personel Floyd , Those highland cattle are good for folks that got brush pastures and don't want goats , or somebody who doesn't want or need 1300# cattle . We've got neighbors all around us...

    Cattle Drive Pics

I think were our handleing styles differ is because of the terrain . We'll trail across some open country then go into deep coulees , if you let your cattle drift out on you or trained them to stay in the herd , the independent ones will bale out in a side coulee and take some with her . It's...

What breed and a few other questions

Your going to be better off with beef bred calves . they are bred to grow and finish . You are going to spend less money on feed getting them to finish . There's nothing to worry about with steers , they are just like any other cattle how you handle them and act around them makes all the...

    Trading up ?

I don't know about trading up , you should be using your bull genetics to improve your herd each year . If you aren't getting the results you want it doesn't hurt to buy some new cows that have what you need.

    Cattle Drive Pics

Trailing cattle isn't that tough , he looks like he's got 125 head or so with big calves should be fairly easy . The big thing is to remember you have all day . If it's going to be hot ,get going early so you don't stress the calves to bad . Put your cattle in a pile and start them going ...

    What does it take ?

No Arkansas I'am not here to start any wars , so just kind of hold your pants on . I was a union cement mason ,it provided me a good living with good benifits and I have a small retirement if I live to 63 . I worked with and around the other trades and have a pretty good idea of how most of the...

    What does it take ?

I'am sure you've thought this through a bit . The cop job is 52 weeks a year . Working construction is no sure thing , it's chicken's or feathers . It may pay more hourly , but when a job gets completed there is no guarentee that you will go to the next one . That's just life working...

    Bale weight for different sizes

The difference in bale weight for us is what we are baleing . CRP and alfa alfa will be in the 1100-1200# range . Barley hay will weigh up closer to 1800# . Straw is right around 1000# . We move all our round bales with semi's , 28 bales to the load.

    Wool socks

Winter is here and I've turned over the stock of socks from light wool to heavy weights . I wear merino wool year round . The lite weight ones aren't to bad of price , but 70% plus wool heavy weight tall socks , you about got to go to the bank to afford a couple of pair .

    Whats it take

I would say your right 150 hp , They are big balers and your going to want that size frame of tractor to handle it.

    Herf heifer

As ALACOWMAN said the brisket is fat and muscle , that's were your brisket comes from for your BBQ . When people are talking about packing extra leather they are refering to the Dewlap and how some cows have enough hanging off the front of them to make a set of curtains .Cows that have a...

    Breed to NOT use

Chi's and Highlanders. Chi's , are one of those that the club calf world had a romance with , but don't have a role in a commercial herd . Highlanders are nice to look at , but what's the point.
