At what height should the brace in an H brace be....or what is the proper height? When to turn out Bulls for expected calving date

According to the gestation table if a cow is bred on June 1st....she will be due March 10th. I shoot for around March 15th due date. So assuming most of them are in heat at turn out then everything would be right on schedule. but they might not be any in heat at turn out and could be a week or...

    All you can eat....buffet hay

Almost always....the first thing somebody wants to know....in a farming related conversation is...."do you have plenty of hay"? Nothing wrong with that. But I hear people fretting every year about whether or not they're gonna have enough hay. Talked to a neighbor while at the stockyards Sat...

    Crimson clover and Durano clover

I was searching the site for threads on Crimson clover and durano. it seems like the consensus is that durano is a bit disappointing as far as grazing goes......my question is....after the crimson dies what do you do in the meantime for clover while it is reseeding itself?

    Calves and Old cows

I have been seeing some thing this year that i find puzzling. Last year my favorite cow in the herd didn't calve, She is probably 10 years old at least. Hairy Vetch

I see a lot of recommendations for hairy vetch in a pasture mix along with other stuff such as annual ryegrass, rye etc. But according to some articles I've read....it says it is toxic to cattle and horses. Temperarily separating Cows n calves

Would there be any benefit to separating cows and calves two or three times a year? Like overnight? Would that sleight amount of stress cause the cow to give more milk overall or stimulate more milk? Just wondering if anybody does that.

    IH 86 series tractors...AC ?

I have been looking at some 886's and 986's and there are several on the market that either don't have AC or it doesn't work. So I am wondering how critical it would be for me .....where I'm basically going to use it to clip pastures with and unroll some hay in the winter. Looking at the design...

    Tractor Transmission noise

I have a Agco Allis 6690 that makes some gear noise when its in gear....but it is inconsistent, sometimes it only does it in the forward gears and then sometimes only in reverse. When it is in neutral and running there is no noise. Oil levels are good...but the noise sounds like you hear the...

    IH 886

I've read a couple of negative reviews on the 886 engine....the 360 cid. according to tractor data they went to the 358 cid in 1980. What is the general consensus out there on the 886? I was looking for something to bushhog with and feed hay with some in the winter. Should I bump a notch to a...

    Tractor steering issue

I have an Agco Allis tractor.....sometimes when I start it up for the first time in a few days, the steering wheel won't move...like its stuck. I'm pretty sure it runs off the hydraulic system. The rest of the hydraulics works fine then after I let it run for 5 or 10 minutes the steering wheel...

Heard an interesting sales pitch about Purinas Accuration product recently. It comes in tubs or liquid tank. Only supposed to consume it in relation to how good or poor your grass or hay is. Its to help them maintain a good body score condition during poor quality grass or hay intake. Has any...
