    calving problem

Had a cow laying down in the pasture trying to give birth. She was in alot of pain, but while I was setting up lights and getting my medical box she got up and was walking fine. I got her in the barn and noticed that she has some birth hanging out, but she does not seem dilated and the calf...

    Anaplasmosis vaccine

Has anyone ever used an anplasmosis vaccine? I found one that is produced by the same people that sold the license to make it to Pitman-Moore. It is not USDA approved, but is sold as a USDA experimental vaccine. Are there any downsides I might have by not using a USDA approved vaccine, or is...

    Anaplasmosis

Had my second case of Anaplasmosis this year. The first one was a cow I bought at the begining of the year. I hoped that she had gotten it from a cow in her previous herd or a deer. I treated and seperated her from the rest of the herd and then shipped her. This was about 2 or 3 months ago...

    baler question

Does anyone know of a 6x6 chain baler? I have a NH 853 4x5 and I know that NH made a 5x5 chain baler. Most of the hay I bale is on the shares and everybody seems to want those monster 6x6 bales instead of the easier to handle 4x5.

    Bald spots on calf

Today I was walking through the pasture/desert and noticed that one of my month old calves had bald spots behind its ears and along the to of its neck. The calf is very healthy and nursing well. Is this caused by flys? I have my cows on a scheldule with the bulls to calf in the winter so I...

    band or castrate?

I've always castrated my calves, but recently I've heard people say that they've gone to banding them b/c it's easier and they can do it themselves with no one helping to hold the calf. It seems that it's more expensive to band and takes 21 to 23 days for them to drop instead of one or 2 weeks...

    Anaplasmosis...did I spell it right?

I had a cow down in the field last Saturday that was having calving problems. When I got the vet out there we found that she had Anaplasmosis. He gave her a shot of Tetracycline and told me to give her another 60cc's the next day. As of today she was still stumbling around and wanting to lay...

    New castrating tool?

As anyone ever seen or used a castrating tool that looked kind of like a pair of pliers with a blade at the end. Saw one at the farm store and was wondering if anyone had any experience using one, and if it was were worth paying $25 or should I stick to the $1.49 disposable knives?

    tractor caught on fire

I had been cutting my hay for about 45 min. when I smelled something burning. When I stopped the tractor I could see smoke start to rise from under the hood. Thankfully I had my fire extinguisher and was able to put it out quick. A bird had built a nest around the exaust manifold. The only...
