?bred heifer with thick yellow discharge

She's pregnant and has non- specific vaginitis- no treatment needed he said. It worked out great that he came over one of my goats needed a shot because she keeps coming into heat every ten days. From talking to the Vet it sounds like business is pretty slow, what with all the dairies...

?bred heifer with thick yellow discharge

Thanks for the reply! I guess I was wondering if anyone had had this happen with their cows. It seems to be gone now, except for the remnants that were swished on her butt from her tail. susie

?bred heifer with thick yellow discharge

I have a 3yr Dexter heifer who was aI'd in the middle of June-- no sign of heat since. Yesterday I noticed quite a bit of very thick pale yellow discharge from her vulva... no odor to it, she seems fine-- good appetite, no fever. Today the amount of discharge is less but it's still there---...

Yes-- it's very fine-- I was planning on wearing a mask, but thank you! I plan on mixing it with compost before spreading it, as it is extremely light. susie

    Phosphorus source-- fire extinguisher material??

I found an ad on my local Craigslist for a soil enhancer-- It's the stuff that comes out of certain fire extinguishers- it's called ABC dry--chem. It is 95 percent MAP mono ammonium phosphate which is a moderate source of nitrogen and a high source of phosophorus it's analysis is 11-52-0 The...

    Soil test results

The nitrogen recommendation is just a guideline based on the crop I specified ( grass) I found that on the report in the fine print. I'm going to focus on adding phosphorus and sulfur first and maybe add a moderate amount of N. I see that Bone meal is a good source of phosphorus-- but...

    Soil test results

Hi- I actually have a lot of clover in my fields- i have overseeded some areas in clover quite a few years ago. Does the soil test take into account the amount of clover I might have? The grass is pretty much what was naturally growing before I got here, which I don't know what it is. Last...

    Soil test results

I just got the results of my soil test and I wondered I could get some help with getting the right fertilizer. They recommend 160 lbs Nitrogen, 70 lbs of Phosphate, and 10 pounds of sulfur per acre- i only have about 3 1/2 acres of pasture. I have a couple small cows and a few goats on...

    Flies... the never ending battle

I rotate pastures every few days to a week -- I'd like to have a fly rub that they have to go under to get to the waterer, but don't know how I'd make it work in every pasture-- any ideas? thanks! Susie

Here's a link I found that talks about comparing lime-- http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~blpprt/acid4.html Susie

    Dolomitic or Calcitic Lime

I don't think calcitic lime is 100 percent lime- I believe both the calcitic and dolomitic are around 30 percent calcium. You'd have to check the bags though. I use calcitic, it is cheaper here. Susie

Well, I might not spread it all this Fall , and I'll have it on hand. Around here at the feed store, comparable seed is 45 $ for 25 lbs. Susie

HEY!! Look What I Bought Today!!

Nice heifers! Saw a nice shorthorn cross heifer sell for 105- well startedtoo, just about ready to be only on grass. Shoulda bought her or even a smaller one -- got a milk goat giving a gallon and a half a day -- no need to buy replacement! Maybe this week-end-- holstein bull calves...

    Dolomitic or Calcitic Lime

I would think whatever's cheapest, then if you need to add magnesium put out some epsom salts. Susie

    Overseeding rate

Wow! :o I paid 55 dollars for 50 pounds of Orchardgrass, endophyte-free fescue and ryegrass . I bought 200 pounds thinking I'd overseed at about 50 lbs/acre. or slightly more (only have 4 1/4 acres total property, about 3 and something in pasture) Susie
