    Homemade bread

It’s really easy to make your own. Surprisingly the taste and texture is just like store bought but you can use healthy oils.

    Homemade bread

In our house the first loaf gets eaten as soon as it comes out of the oven. Then there will be a loaf left for a meal!

    Warning, gross pictures.

Definitely not the calving experience you want. Glad the cow is ok. Hopefully smooth sailing here on out.

    Semen tank troubles

No! I dont take them out! Just to get them up far enough to pick out a straw. Im not new at this. Been breeding AI for 30+ years. Thats why this tank frustrates me so bad.

    Semen tank troubles

Thats what I do. I raise the canister to within 2-3 inches from the too but you cant get it settled back down in its place and therefore you can’t get at any other semen.

    Making money in cattle!

This has been the most helpful info. I know Jeanne and I have watched her at work. I’ve watched her herd and her successes. If I have a question I always want to ask Jeanne. I told my husband once, “When I grow up, I want to be like Jeanne!” Thanks Jeanne. I’m sharing this with my kids. They all...

    Semen tank troubles

What type of semen tank do you have and do you like it? I never thought that there was a difference in tanks. We had an MVE and thought we needed to upgrade. Well apparently I didn’t do my homework. I buy most of my semen from one particular (popular) distributor, so of course I ordered a tank...

Timing your breeding to get a heifer calf

Thank you for all that info. For years my husband and I have gone by that theory ( and it works!) but my 19 year old insists it’s the opposite. He can have all the bulls lol.

Timing your breeding to get a heifer calf

Has anyone heard the theory if you breed early in the heat cycle you’ll increase your chances of a heifer and later in the cycle will most likely produce a bull?

    Shorthorn Bull-Ronan

Yes. I ordered 10 straws. We used cidrs on our cows, followed typical protocol- hope im not jumping the gun but so far any repeats were bred to him. Ive only got 3 straws left and was really hoping for some calves out of him.

Anyone using this bull? How’s your conception rate?

    Tattooing at birth or older

Yes. Shorthorn association requires tattoos for identification.

    Tattooing at birth or older

No problem with tattoo becoming distorted and hard to read as they grow?

    Tattooing at birth or older

When do you recommend tattooing calves? We’re having a family discussion about the pros and cons of doing babies vs weanlings and older.

    Wormer question

Thanks. Im going to do the cydectin/safeguard/multi min/ fresh, new pasture approach.

    Wormer question

    Wormer question

I have 2-3 2nd calf heifers that are rough looking. They lost bc before they had their first calves and never caught up. I think a good worming and Dr Green will help. What do you recommend for worming. They’ve had great calves so i know genetic potential is there, I think it was just poor mgt...
