    Jeanne - Simme Valley

Hello Jeannie, Sorry to hear about your husband. From reading your post here and seeing you in person a few times, I know that you're a strong person who can take care of your farm and cows on your own. I'm glad to see you're not quitting. Take care.

NEED HELP TRAINING MY SHOW HEIFER!!

Is your heifer already halter broke? How long have you had her? Is she by herself? Cattle are herd animals. If she isn't halterbroke, get busy. Stand in her pen while she's eating if you can for a few days try to get a halter on her as gently and as possible. Let on her for a few days to...

    Clipping Hereford Heifers

Did you join the association? If you did you should've gotten a packet with all kinds of information. There should have been one in there with info about how to care, fit and clip cattle for showing.

Halter breaking a 7 month old heifer

This is what we do. We tie them first. About 15 minutes the first time and then longer as they get used to the halter and being tied. Make sure you stay with them in case they flip themselves over. We start touching them first, then start brushing them. After they get used to being around us...

    NLC Superior

I have a cattle friend that pulled a calf that was a NLC Superior calf. The calf is ok. The calf weighed 90lbs. But the cow was , in my opinion too small for Superior.

Cattle, Water, and Environmental wackos and sheeples

Whether we like it or not, in Pa we have to keep them out of the streams. We also are now required to have a manure management plan. Right now the cows get their water out of the stream. So we will have to install water sources for them some time soon.

    To All The Lurkers....

I'll step out of lurkdom for a little bit. I find it simplier to lurk and observe than to participate at times. Some threads don't apply to our operation. I learn alot here and find that when we have problems we aren't the only cattle people to have them. This website is the first one I...

Hereford/ Black simmentals vs. Hereford/ Black angus

It should say two nice heifers (our opinion) for 4-H projects.

Hereford/ Black simmentals vs. Hereford/ Black angus

We use black Simmental bulls on our 3 hereford cows. They do alright. Our main herd is simmental. My daughter is showing 2 ( our opinion) 3/4 simm,1/4 hereford heifers as a 4-H project. One is solid black out of a baldie cow. The other is a black baldie heifer out of a black baldie cow...

    breaking news::Bin Laden is dead

Hurray he's dead. Now comes fear of retaliation. We already had a bomb go off here in some city garage early this morning. Authorites evacuated parts of the city in case it had to do with Osama death. The Osama worshippers I'm sure are planning revenge.

    Simmentals!

We have a few hereford cows and one angus cow that are bred to our simm bull. They seem to do well with them. Our major herd is simmental. I've seen most any breed do ok with Simmentals.

What have you learned on CT?

Livestock means deadstock. Cows can get themselves in strange perdictments. Don't complain about waiting for a vet when some areas don't even have a vet close enough to call.

    4-H

They're both ok for a first time show experience. I like 37 the best. They are both too leggy for me. Good luck with them.
