    Brood cow vs milk replacer

There's a young man where I work that raises a few bottle calves. He may have anywhere from 1 to 10 at a time. I'm trying to talk him into getting a Jersey cow or something familiar for him to put some calves on instead if buying that expensive (IMO) replacer. I've raised lots of calves years...

    Lime in mineral feeder

Years ago when we were new to the area I remember someone saying that they had a separate mineral feeder that they put lime in. They said the consumption was low but if the cows needed it, it was there. Any other thoughts in this?

    Registered cattle records

There is someone close by that has a registered Charolais bull for sale but "lost the papers"...I've never had a registered or purebred bull before for the handful of cows I had but I grew the herd and now I'm thinking I might go that route. Anyways I suspect the bull probably isn't registered...

    Color lightening

I have some mixed breed CharX cows that gave brown and grey calves with skunk tails. They turn pretty much pure white about weaning time. I use a purebred Charolais bull. I know there's a diluter gene in the mix. Anyone else experiencing this ? Top and bottom pics belong together.

    Water treatment plant lime?

I asked my boss, who is on the water commision board, about the water treatment plant lime. He said he didn't think it was exactly lime, but rather some type of residue or "sludge". He said he will check into it further. I am talking about water treatment, not about sewage treatment. Can anyone...

    Question MIN-Vit A - AERO mix

I read a few days ago about a mineral-VitaminA and Aeromiacin crumbles mix that supposedly prevents pinkeye. I called the feed mill today to price vitamin A and was given a price of $22.00 per 50lbs. I remember about 10 or 15 years ago we bought a small bag that ran $35.00. Does anyone know the...
