    Snowmageddon 2011 begins

Gotta love this Missouri weather.....50 degrees and sunny 3 days ago and now 19 degrees with whiteout conditions. about 12 inches of snow so far in Miller county with 2 foot drifts. Expecting another 8-10 inches with 30-40 mph winds. I also realize this is a typical winter day for some of you...

How about these? - Herf and angus bull pics

The particular test that this bull came off of is at Green Springs near Nevada MO. Green Springs tests for ADG (average daily gain) and feed efficiency among many other things. Here is a link to their website: http://www.greenspringsbulltest.com/ Costs vary from year to year depending on feed...

How about these? - Herf and angus bull pics

C'mon Knersie, I know you have more to say than that. It must be a slow night. After the last bull I posted, I assumed there would be some "better" or "worse" comments.

How about these? - Herf and angus bull pics

A couple more, mainly for Rich, if he's still out there. A daughter of 70N. Not a flashy gal but is raising a real nice Logic calf for her first go round. A Farley daughter out of the same cow as the bull above. That's her 3 day old 70N heifer calf at side. Another Farley daughter out...

How about these? - Herf and angus bull pics

Here are a few shots of a bull that just came back from test. He is a March 17, 2009 baby. I think he did pretty decent ratioing a 109 for the test against 16 other bulls from what I would call the 2 best known hereford herds in the state. Here are his stats: Adj BW: 92 Adj WW: 637 Adj WW...

    Pick'n time, bull calf

A decent looking calf. I like his conservative markings and pigment around the eyes. 102 lb birthweight would have gotten the knife here though. Too hard to sell large BW bulls around here.

Food for thought on cattle breeding preferred by feedlots

This is high quality info, right here.

Food for thought on cattle breeding preferred by feedlots

I can agree with you to an extent on this. It does pay to raise the right kind, but it didn't hurt you any that you sold 40 head in probably the same pen. If you have 40 head of anything uniform, you are going to get near or at the top of the market. I can probably even guess where you sold...

    Opinions on my new bull

Thank you for your comments, Jeanne. I still lurk from time to time, but dont' have much time to post. Your thoughts seem to be the same as mine. Perfect....far from it. He is 15 months right now and I haven't weighed him recently. According to his yearling weight and the way he was growing...

    Opinions on my new bull

You're killin me, George!! Give me something constructive. As for AI work, you got me on that one, I AI everything myself, so this guy won't see any action here. BTW he is AI sired, by one of the best carcass bulls in the breed. Perfect by no means, but potential to make someone's black herd...

    Herf Bull Pic: Updated

I applaud your obvious success at making your operation work on grass only in most cases. I believe I made mention of that before. But as you said, fat hides flaws, no matter if that fat is gained by grain or forage. Obviously an easy keeping animal is better than a hard keeper but again...

    Herf Bull Pic: Updated

Knersie, The pics were taken only about a week apart, so I doubt there is any extra discernable fat cover here, simply a different view. As for the second part of your post, I'll take it as a general statement and not a personal attack on me as a small seedstock producer, I hope it was meant...

    Herf Bull Pic: Updated

I did finally have an extra 10 minutes to snap a few more. Let me know if you like these any better. As I mentioned before, the break behind the shoulders and the lack of eye pigment are the two biggest faults I can see. Pardon the flies in the last pic, I haven't gotten them sprayed since...

    Herf Bull Pic

No hurt feelings here. I've posted plenty of photos and not always gotten the comments I wanted to hear. That is the whole point of posting, to get others opinions. But we have to remember, they are just that, opinions, and most are from people we don't know from adam. So you take what you...
