Feeding cows when you don't have enough hay

I found a mill up the road that makes pellets, 15% protein for the same price as whole corn, that’s bulk of course. I filled the dump truck yesterday and now have full bins.cows seem to like them

    When do you brush hog?

I’m not far from you Clint, blue mound area. I know a lot of people clip this time of year in the area, I’ve noticed the natives really come on strong once it gets to hot for the fescue. I’ve been spraying 24-d the last couple years and letting what survives that grow.

    Oats for feed

Oats have a higher fat content than corn, oats used to be a cheap but very good feed. I know several cattlemen that fatten steers on oats, they say it doesn’t take as long and with better marbling. Oats have tripled in price here, corn is our go to because of price

    Brome Hay

Really great hay, requires good ground and lots of nitrogen. Doesn’t like multiple cuts and hates roundup with passion. Small squares here are going for $12 a bale this year

This is how I feel as well, I do a lot of work for this family, except for this son, he loves to far away. I wan mainly looking for a value, foot work for the last couple days shows them in that condition up to about 6500 somewhat local. The hydraulic remote repair is what I’d really like to...
