    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Seeing the condition that they are in I’m definitely staying away from pour-on.

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Hi Lucky_P, we did have a conversation about sacrificing one and checking her to see what it could be. As of right now the last two that died last week we were unable to coordinate for anyone to pick the cattle, because we are so remote. However one of the vets I spoke to who also happens to...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Not offended at all. We finally got our meds yesterday and all cows as per the vet are going to be treated today. He thinks it’s a possibility that we did not deworm correctly which has cause this, possibly six months ago to a year ago. I’ll let you know what happens in a few more days...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Thanks for the concern I’m still up researching liver fluke and Ivomec plus and a few other names I was given to get rid of this I’m not getting much sleep the last few days it’s always something 🤦‍♂️ Yes your right it was a screw up and I’m also to blame because I’m thinking ehhh the calf is...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Hi Lee I’m actually not on-site. What we did do is we did separate 20 cows along with their calves into a separate pasture to see if we can get them into better condition over time. They have access to daily clean water, feed and minerals, Tomorrow morning I’m actually calling a vet who works...

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Agreed we thought maybe the way we grazed affected them but there’s still time. Anemia definitely set in as well.

    Possible Liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

Has anyone had it in their herd?? What’s it look like??? The green circles on this one cow which looks somewhat healthy is where the parasites “supposedly” make or dig a “cave” these two cows died one in Friday and yesterday morning. They have plenty of grass even though we are doing intensive...

That’s what I need. Unfortunately the ones I’ve found are good for 6 months.

You got me thinking now. I read your comment with more thought after Lee va Ross posted. The chickens do hang out near the house. But the cattle never graze near the chickens or the house. I’d say the closest pasture is about 500-600 ft. I think if it happens again I’m just going to get someone...

Hi Ken yes the whole northern part of Guatemala is deficient in phosphorus. I was also thinking pneumonia but it hasn’t rained in 7 days and it’s usually in the 90’s down there. The cows do get minerals and no added salt. Also add vitamins to the water and that also has a bit of salt. But the...

I think it’s cheap considering I’m live in NYC and a houses for sale are over 1.4 million for a 20x40 home. I can tell you that my property taxes in guatemala are only the equivalent of $100 US. I would of thought farm land here in the US would of been more money.

You can buy land down there for $1300-$2800 an acre for farming/cattle BUT not anywhere near the Southern, east coast, or parts of the west coast it all has to be the northern part of the country. Anywhere in the areas I mentioned, it's too expensive. There really are no advantages to having...

I do vaccinate I’m late on my vaccination program by 3 weeks. I have an appointment with the vet for July 26th. None of my neighbors really have cattle I think they are throwing in the towel. They have a hard time with up keeping. Most of them have just few head. Under 25 head is my guess.

Yes family is originally from down there. My parents originally got into the cattle business because of a relative. Originally purchased 2 parcels of land about 90 acres each, every year after that purchased a few more parcels to where it’s at now 500 acres. Is the land worth money, compared to...
