I need to move out of the hill county. Stocking rates at 1 head per 13 acres ain’t gonna pay for land here. I'm around 4 acres per pair right now.

I don't know who came up with .75 a day, but that won't make much of a land payment. My grass costs include the dirt is growing in.

They ain't running cows for $250 if they are making land payments. Back up and think about your numbers vs hers and what she just explained.

Have never heard anyone in central Texas say cattle can make a land payment, though. Noticed that in the thread above, one person said his animals had to make his land payment. Might exist here, but it would be rare, I think. So, all those accounts and loans, in the end, won’t really do any...

I think this right here is where some are missing my point. When I say I hate to sell a 5 year-old late or open, I'm not talking about a corrinete or even a full Angus thats only good for 7 or 8 calves in her life. Im talking about an f-1 braford that someone will buy at the sale and raise...

    Feeder futures

While I'm not ruling this out, the numbers others have given on this thread tells me my 10% fallout rate is right in line with normal. I do provide a good mineral, good feed and a good vac program. I fell I go above and beyond most of my neighbors on that.

I'm not comfortable with it, but is it a better option than selling cows that should be in their prime? I bought a set of 7 super baldies as bred heifers they were 2019 models. As of now I have two of them left, granted I sold some of them for $800 more than I originally paid due to the good cow...

Thanks for the warm welcome 🤣. And i dont think i was clear. I'm not talking about feeding them all winter to let them catch up next year. I'm talking about leaving the bulls in all year and taking a calf whenever it comes, like I used to do, my daddy and his daddy done. I'm saying regardless of...

    Feeder futures

I'll add a little context to that, my cattle have land payments to make, and I'm a family man so any extra money always has a place to go. I have a couple other businesses that take most of my time and attention, and there is no extra money to throw at replacement cattle. So my only option is to...

    Feeder futures

I've been working towards this for 3 or 4 years. I've about come to the conclusion it's too expensive. Every year good cows fall out. And many of the top cows are working their way from Feb to April. I do feed my cows in the winter and they have plenty of grass in the summer they are fat all...

There is a young man in my area who has a few jersey milk cows solely for grafting cheap orphan calves on to. Pretty good idea I thought if you have a few minutes a day to put to it.

Backyard grassers must have come to the sale.

I've been saying the same thing, with $4,000+ an acre pasture, $60 hay, $15 cubes, $5 T posts, $100 wire.... $1,200 for a calf ain't much money

    Cow sale tonight.

Looks to me like a good buy

    Calf prices

This is true, the chart graybeard posted shows a jump of 1 million head from 2014 to 2015. So what else caused prices to drop so quickly? Seems I seen a chart somewhere that showed that drop correlating with the county of origin labeling change.

    Calf prices

My opinion is worth what it costs, but if I was you I would sell in May lol. Just my luck alone says they will go down July cause that's when I'll have a good number ready

    Calf prices

I can't help but wonder how long lived these prices will be? I wonder how much impact imported beef will have this summer.

#2 is a quarter ear or more, hereford, off colors and singles. Horned is roping cattle. #1 is the absolute best of the sell and a man would be wise not to count on those prices
