Opinions on the South Poll Breed.

I got what I asked for here. A lot of opinions. But really well thought out, intellectual and informative opinions. I really appreciate it. My basic goal is not commercial or to make money as a breeder. If things work out that way that'll be great. But I just really want to produce some...

Opinions on the South Poll Breed.

From my experience with my first post about my "lowlines" I can see y'all have pretty strong opinions and are not afraid to express them. Respect there! So what do think about the relatively new breed known as the "South Poll"?

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

It is my understanding that full size Angus breeders use "lowline" bulls for first calf heifers for easier calving. So that was where I was going by identifying genetics.

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

Yes I do now agree. And I a bit dismayed that The "lowline" association would be so loose. But when I asked how I would register the mixed cow they replied: "The commercial cow has been assigned the number X13749 in registry. When you register a progeny you must enter the X. No DNA is required...

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

Yes Sir, I went back and reviewed my original post and the replies and see the confusion. I'm new to this and learning these things. I agree that they should have kept the "lowline" in the association name.

Actually, I received the following email today from AAA : "Hello Robert, Provided you are a member and can follow the registration guidelines, this animal can be registered as 50% Aberdeen. You would need to enter the commercial cow into the system to do so. Many thanks, Sherry Doubet American...

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

We just have the one mixed cow (more or less 3 years -old) and the 2 Pureblood American Aberdeen heifers (20 months). They are from same bull and different Dam's born of the same day! Good advice. I'm told that in this area at the local livestock auction we would get the same $/lb wether cut or...

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

Copy that! Thanks. We pretty well figured that to be the case but I am trying to figure out my best way to advertise him and the best source to advertise in. I figured if I knew the Dam's heritage I could include that info. Any advice on best DNA analysis? Any advice on where I should advertise...

Advice Selling 6-month 50% AA bull

We inherited a mixed Angus (possibly Brangus?) heifer of unknown mixed heritage and bred her with a FullBlood, AAA registered bull (23114 CHIEF LYNN). She calved a healthy bull July 4th 2024. We now want to sell him soon. Should I, OR Can I, register him? Should I do DNA analysis on the Dam...
