Thanks all. The reason I asked is we just lost a mare that was about to turn 45. She lived a pampered life and was in reasonably good shape till that hot stretch hit us a week or so ago. She went down and couldn't get up so we had the vet come and put her down.

You were pretty close there mnmtranching. Hauled the old boy today and took in $62.50/100wt.He weighed in at 1700 lbs. Top selling bull in the ring today. Sold for a breeder, which I was kinda glad to see. Sellin out ain't easy, just nessessary.

Any auction is a big risk, especially if it's a salebarn. I personally wouldn't do it because of the potential for disease. Bottle calves are a lot of work also. If you have never done this kind of thing before, start with just one or two, because you just might find the job don't fit you too...
