    Hanging water bag/placenta

Even if there isn't a second calf in there it could be life threatening. You have most likely introduced bacteria, and with the now rotting placenta thats not a great combination. Get some antibiotic from your vet and inject her with it. Then you can apply gentle pressure pulling with a...

    Brahman

I love those Red Brahmans. Gotta have some colour in em, they just look so much better to me than the greys. Up around my uncle's place (north of cardwell) there is nothing but greys & it gets boring fast. We run a commercial charbray herd and I love the colour variations you get with them...

    Branding Question

The brands should be heated "blue hot" which is that dull glow below red hot. Dun is right in saying to look for the tan/copper color after application of the brand. If its not right, you need to hold the brand on longer. If it takes more than 3-5 seconds to get that color you need to heat...

    My herd is growing

You are supposed to cut those tags off a certain number of days after applying them. I'm not sure how many days for the blue ones. Then next fly season you use one of the other colour tags instead. This way, the flies are not exposed to sublethal (low) doses, and can't build immunity to the...

    Another big butt

Well if it is high quality beef then its NOT going to the US market is it, whether you test its genes or otherwise when you've sold a beast you think it all ends up in the finest restaurants and not hamburgers? Thanks aussie_cowgirl for proving alftn wrong

Wood Posts and Barbed wire-Another way to do it

You think like my Dad, he aint used a wooden post since I can remember. Msscamp, would you like me to mail you a small piece of hardwood to try nailing or stapling? I left a 4x4 post in my timber rack for a couple of years (thats 2) before I got around to using it. Well we concreted...

    Another big butt

And nor should they. I would hate to think how my cattle would fair in Canada or the US. They probably wouldn't stand a single season. Sorry to say this, but i would bet your cattle wouldn't fair too well in my paddocks either. But you wouldn't expect that. Unless you have vaccinated them...

    Another big butt

US imports of Australian beef are for grinding. USA produces copious amounts of grainfed prime beef. They don't import it from us. There are shortages of manufacturing grade beef, which they import from us. From a US perspective, Australian beef is for grinding - whether you get offended or...

Wood Posts and Barbed wire-Another way to do it

In regard to fixing barbwire to posts with staples, it ain't gonna happen because our hardwoods are harder than the staples when you cut them green, and they get harder every minute thereafter. Drilling the 1" holes in the post is done with an "atom drill" which is powered by a chainsaw engine...

    Branding placement question

Branding is compulsory for us. The first brand is placed in any of the 5? prescibed positions, near or offside the first one to brand a beast gets to choose. crossbranding is done directly under the existing brand in the same position, or if there is no more room you go to the next positon...

    Need advice Sanding rusty post

Only need to use Wattyl etch primer for aluminium brass copper galvanised iron etc. Just use the standard Heavy Duty Metal Primer. Also, Wattyl etch primer is an epoxy paint - I thought you didn't like epoxy?

    Need advice Sanding rusty post

Paint over the rust using penetrol (from the Flood Company) as the primer. Than use a good oil-based paint, and add penetrol to it at the recomended rate. Done & Done, no wire brush sanding blasting or washing required. Will outlast you and I most likely.
