Hay Belly in Calf - Help Please!

The color is off in the picture. It's orchard grass hay and actually pretty green in person.

Hay Belly in Calf - Help Please!

Ok. I will head down to our local feed store tomorrow and see what they have in stock for horses and post back with my choices. We live in an area where few people have cattle, so choices are limited. A few counties over and there's a lot of dairy farms, but I'm not sure where the feed stores...

Hay Belly in Calf - Help Please!

I found a few grain brands for growing calves on tractor supply's website that seem to fit the protein requirements. I'll stop by there tomorrow and pick some up. For the meantime, we'll just pull her from the pasture (she'll accept a halter) and feed her on a leadrope (that's going to get old...

Thanks! Should I keep with the hay as well or switch gradually just to grain?

Hay Belly in Calf - Help Please!

We have a five month old holstein that we bottle raised. She was a sickly calf from the start and we almost lost her twice but she made it. Weaned her off her milk replacer when she was 3 months old and switched to calf starter pellet feed and hay 2x/day. We had issues with the other animals in...

Calf rubbing off dehorning paste. Help please!

We just dehorned our calf using caustic paste a half hour ago. She has been rubbing the spots a lot with her back hooves and now the paste is barely on the button, but a good thin layer is still present immediately around the raised button. Should we reapply more paste to the button or is this...

New calf from auction - weak, diarrhea, not taking bottle

Well it's been a roller coaster week with this calf. We tried two doses of penicillin Monday and Tuesday because she spiked a fever and started coughing (I really thought we were going to lose her Tuesday into Wednesday). Then read online that penicillin does squat for pneumonia. Back to Tractor...

New calf from auction - weak, diarrhea, not taking bottle

How long should we be pushing electrolytes? Someone here said 2qts 3x a day, but for how long? Should I still give her a quart of milk replacer in between the electros? Thanks so much for the help so far. It means so much.

New calf from auction - weak, diarrhea, not taking bottle

Ok...we tubed her (how nerve-wracking! !!) With 2 quarts of electrolytes an hour ago. Then we pulled her out of the barn and into our yard, encouraging her to stay up and walk. About 45 minutes later and I just had to put her into our paddock because she was running (RUNNING!!! :D ) into the...
