    King Ranch

Watch out KR. I've increased my herd to 25 head in 6 years but I'm growing fast. I may out grow my 130 acres in 10 to 15 years.

    Scraped leg on Cow

I noticed one of our cows has a scrape on her front leg 8" above her hoof. It's about 2" in diameter. Not deep just and old fashioned "strawberry". I can put her in the chute and put some medicine on it but I'm sure she will just lick in off. Since she can lick it and keep it relatively...

    Old Heifer Nursing Mother

OK You caught on my fine proof reading of my posts. Ha. She's 15 months old but I weaned her from her mama at 7 months. Or I thought I did. I have to agree with ya'll, she needs to go. Thanks for the responses!

    Old Heifer Nursing Mother

I have a 15 month old heifer that we retained for our herd. She and others have been separated from the herd for 15 months. I put them out with the herd in early July to be bred and last week I caught her SNEAKING a drink from good old mom. Her little brother was nursing mom from the side and...

    PTO Clutch Problem

First, let me say I don't no much at all about the internal parts of a tractor. I can change fluids and filters belts and hoses but as far a as the guts, I don't even want to go there. I have a 20 year old ford 6610. We bought it 6 years ago and it has never missed a lick. We have used it for...

    Calf biting tail

I've got a 5 day old calf that seems completely healthy and full of energy. She's nursing fine. Today, I watched her turn and chew on her tail like a dog chasing fleas would do. I also noticed three or four small spots on the tail that looks like the hair is gone. Anyone have any ideas? I...

    Lift the cow or Not?

Sorry, I'm not a picture taker and my grand kids are not visiting this week. We've already put 4" straps under her. One is at the brisket and the other just in front of her bag. Chained the straps to welded hooks I have on my tractor bucket. Lifted her just high enough to get her legs under...

    Lift the cow or Not?

Thanks for the responses to my original post. As a note, the cow had the calf at daylight on Thursday morning. It was a cool morning and steam off her and the calf was apparent. On Thursday and Friday morning she did try to get up on her own and came quite close. She shifted herself from her...

    Lift the cow or Not?

Story: Cow had a big calf thursday. Contacted Vet. Cow had paraylsis and cannot get up. Calf died Thursday night. Cow is confined in pasture. Eating and drinking fine. Vet says cow will get up in due time. Neighbors and friends say that after this long she has lost feelings in back legs. She...

    410

My dad gave me a single shot 410 when I was 9 years old. After 49 years, I'm still killing snakes and varmits with it. My 8 year old grandson was started on it. Shells expensive; time with my grandson PRICELESS!

    Crystalyx

I work very part time at a feed store. The company rep for crystalyx brought one of the biobarrels by for us to display. After looking at it and listening to him discuss the pro's and con's, I think I prefer the metal tub for my situation because I have few cows and they are all right at the...

    Bought the farm

From another transplanted boat driver, contrats on your decision. The folks on this board are great. Take your time with the land and the infrastructure. Even though the fishing business was a great part of life, this life in the country watching baby calves being born and running around CAN'T...

Ground Drags for leveling pastures, etc.

I chain a 10' I-beam behind my disc and disc and level at the same time. The I-beam helps the disc work deeper and levels the turned ground as it goes.
