    Reason for Animal ID

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--Government investigators looking into the latest case of mad-cow disease in the U.S. won't likely be able to find the source of the cow's infection, a Food and Drug Administration official said Thursday. Stephen Sundlof, director of FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine...

    what breed to pick

My point is that Brangus "crossbreed" is a Registered Breed of cattle today, since 1949. One doesn't refer to a Reg. Breed as "crossbreed". More Brangus are bred from Brangus to Brangus breeding than any other way.

SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BRANGUS COWS

When you work Brangus you have to lead them not push them. If you try to push them through a gate they will go everywhere ecept through the gate. Lead them. Get a sack of feed or bucket and lead where ever you want. I have led them from the back of my pickup just by shaking the bucket. When you...

    Simbrah on Herefords

I think that cross would work for you although you must chose for ease of calving. The 3/8ths Brahama would be the best chose not just a half blood (F1). The Brangus would work for you also and would make the herd look alike. Good luck

Ethical Decision Making ... what would you do?

I think the vet should tell the client that he will take care of the dog and then give it to the humane socity for adoption. The vet should offer to set the leg so the pig will have some comfort. At no cost if necessary.

What kind of feed do you use?

Why want you feed coastal to horses? My horses lived entirely on coastal and grass. Now that was well fertilized coastal.

    what breed to pick

Brangus is an American breed. See the attached site. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/brangus/

    what breed to pick

Alex Dees ranches in AZ and he raises Brangus. I would suggest that you go by his ranch and see what you think. I believe he has a web site, if not go to the IBBA web site to get his address.

5 Pics Herford heifers-My heads on the block

Tail heads to high??? Is that a Hereford thing? I have been raising registered cattle for over thirty years and I have never heard of a tail head to high. Ho well I am young yet. Nice to learn something new. :o

Yes you can buy better bulls. A better bull will turn your herd around in short order. Plan to purchase the best bull you can afford. A rule thumb is to estamiate the combined value of your top three cows and plan to spend at least that amount on a bull. The calves he produces should be better...

We bought a new bull (and other bull pics)

How much does the 15 mo bull weight and how much do you want for him? His sheath would work up here in Wisconsin. I found a table developed by LSU on the ALOT Angus Assocation web site that would tell you how good he is by comparing weight and age.

    got our cows

I would get an Registered Angus or Brangus bull. The are easy calvers and will turn the entire herd black and get away from that "Rainbow Collitation" look. Then if you are not happy with the calves I would look for another type of bull after you know more. In you area, Houston, I would use the...
