    Winchester Rifle

The Russian Winchesters were model 1895's. That is the version that I've been look for for a long long time. Bid on a few online and always come up short. 7.62 x 54R cartridge is very close to a 30-30. The puzzle is coming together.

    Winchester Rifle

From the description and if it was a lever gun, your description of the rear sight and a short magazine, it sounds like a Saddle Ring Carbine (SRC). Probably a very early 92 or 94 with a shot out/worn bore from putting meat on the table year round. If it was a Winchester, I highly doubt it...

Posting for a friend: Nose bleed in a cow

I had a bull with a nose bleed one hard winter when the temps stayed below zero for a while. Vet came out and wasnt to concerned. He told me it happens more in horses where the temps dry our the sinuses and they crack. It looks like murder in the snow and on the white Charolais cows.

    Buying guns online

I'm always cruising around the antique firearms on Gunbroker, looking more than buying. I've purchased online from Palmetto State Armory and Classic Firearms. We have a local business that does monthly online auctions that I buy and sell a lot at called The Gunrunner auctions. All the Gunrunner...

    Ideas on Strengthening Gates

Thanks for all the suggestions. Do any of you beef up the hinges. The last steer that went crazy ended up going through two of the gates. Put his head down low on the gate and ended up twisting the top hinge strap around on the one gate and the other he sheared off the top pin the gate hinge...

    Ideas on Strengthening Gates

Seeing the posting on the gate hinges, I figured I'd start another topic on strengthening gates. It happens every few years when loading up cattle that I have one or two that destroy a gate in the loading alley or the pen leading into the alley as they try to get back out into the pasture. One...

Remington 22 ammo fail to fire.

Weak hand firing and failure to eject go hand in hand with a standard velocity ammo. Pistol is moving in your hand or your breaking your wrist and that is absorbing the energy required for the slide to function. High Velocity thunderbolts work due to it having an abundance of energy to cycle...

    Coolbot for walk in cooler.

That's the what I've been reading online and looking to go. I bought a used 8x6 walk-in ice house the Amish built with 10" of cork in the walls and roof years ago for $45 at an auction. Then I took apart an old pop machine and had that compressor in there for a while but it died on me. Then I...

    Farm Pond Turtle Traps?

What kind of turtles? Snapping turtles are pretty easy. Even a hunk of meat on a fishing pole will catch them. I trap a couple of different pond and swamps for snapping turtles for cleaning out and butchering. If your going to clean them and eat them I made a 24 x 24 x 36 live trap out of a...

    Rolls full of string

I fell for that one year. I got a load of round bales that the string was wound all the way to the core. I will never bring anything like that back onto the farm again. A complete PITA! It takes forever to unwrap one with string all the way to the core and if you leave it go, the cows eat what...

What is gun worth 270 Higgins

The pawn shop probably would of only gave him $100 for it.The rifle is worth it as a hunting rifle and you could probably could make a $25-$150 profit off of it, if you can find someone looking for a good hunting rifle. JC Higgins aren't really collectors items and the synthetic stock would take...
