    Anaplasmosis

About 3 years ago, bull was acting funny, by himself, and no energy. Next day, I called vet and they said to bring him in quickly. Also asked how bull was behaving and to be extremely careful because some get very aggressive. Saved bull, but didn't treat cows, and that was the mistake. Vet...

    yearling weights on bulls

We have had flood the previous 2 years, last year the red clover was everywhere, this year a lot of white clover. Vet said there was a lot of big calves born this year, and some suspect the clover and ideal growing conditions last year. The clover from last year sure makes the deer season a...

    yearling weights on bulls

Due to excessive birth weights on my Limousin bull, (2.4 bw epd, 76 # actual), I purchased an Angus bull to get the Limflex cross, and a lower birth weight calf. The Angus had a yearly weight of 1124 on the papers, and had been fed, but to what extent I am not sure. I have a yearling Limousin...

    % bulls to heifers

This year we have had 14 calves so far, 2 of them heifers. This is the biggest percentage of bulls we have experienced. But they look good, just hard to raise any replacement heifers.

Angus Bull for ya'll to critique

Looks good, the bw of 55, they should come out in a hurry. Are you using this for heifers and your herd cows? They should grow fast with that kind of yw and you should have some great looking limflex. After pulling the first calf out of a limflex heifer that weighed 90 lbs, broke both its...

    Bull ideas for Limflex cows

I would like to thank all of you for your replies. Had first calf of year, registered limflex, took to vet to pull, because of too much time. Calf pulled without a lot of effort, but we broke both back legs, so we put it down. Heifer is approx 30 months old, and bull calf weighed 90 lbs. Too...

    Wild steer help

Agree with Bez+, we have a butcher shop around here that will send a truck out, shoot him for you, (they prefer to do this themselves), gut and haul off to butcher shop and give you the finished product. I haven't used them, but know people who have and they were pleased with the service, also...

    sea minerals for fertilizer??

Anyone used sea minerals for fertilizing pastures and hay ground? I've seen them advertised in Farm Talk to fertilize for $18 an acre. I believe you mix with water and use a spray rig to apply. After last years prices, I am wanting more options. Thanks, Rick

    Bull ideas for Limflex cows

I've read where breeding two purebreds of different breeds produces an F1 or F2 cross, I can't remember which of those is correct. I have some Limousin and Limflex cows. I seem to remember the article also said that if you take the purebred cross and breed to a purebred of a different breed...

choosing which bull to use for heifers

Thanks for the replies and sorry for not including the bw epd in the area. Both are registered and the bw epd on the smaller bull is 0.0, and the larger one is 1.3.

choosing which bull to use for heifers

I have 2 bulls from a different bloodline than my bull. I bought some heifers that are Limousin and have Arrowhead breeding, and kept the two bulls from them. My bull has Hunts Hi Liter breeding and has been throwing some nice heifers. Since they have some qualities I like and want in my...

    calf caught in bale ring

Thanks for your replies, she came in to eat with the other calves last night for the first time. She also ate out of a mineral bucket with a feeder steer, and fought her way in. Will deciede on taking her to market soon, but if I do keep her, she will have 2-3 months of being kept here at home...

    calf caught in bale ring

Thanks, She is doing better now, just a slight limp, and moving fast. She was stuck in an unskirted ring with 3 rungs of 1 inch tube steel on the bottom. Her left rear leg went outside the ring on the top of these, back inside the ring, then outside between the top and middle rung. After...

    calf caught in bale ring

Had a weining calf get hung up in an unskirted bale ring. Was there probably most of night. Had to cut ring in several places to get her out. Took her to vet 2-3 days later, and he thought she had some nerve damage, but might come out of it. A couple of weeks later I noticed she had lost the...

    pond windmills??

Anyone know a way to keep from having to break ice, where there is no water or electricity available. Saw a pond mill on wheels that is susposed to keep water from freezing, but not sure if it is worth $350.00. Checked some farm stores, and only one carries them. Remember seeing them as a kid...
