BTW... found this online http://www.extension.iastate.edu/bfc/pu ... haring.pdf It explains a little, but you're right... not that good of an idea unless it's managed very closely
We are on 160 acres and we oly have a few heifers right now. I have a freind that would go in on a percentage of a bull, hiefer or steer. How does this work? If we split the perchase cost then how do we divide the cost for everything else? How does everything get paid out in the end?
Bret...
Well I've got one that's 12 months old and another that just had a calf (3 Year old w/ second calf). I'd like to IA them at the same time, but I don't want it to be to early for the younger one.
Thanks,
Bret
We always bought yearlings to finish out but now we are starting to breed our own. Here are a few questions:
1. How long should I wait to breed back our heifers?
2. At what age should I band the bulls?
3. At what age can I breed a cow for the first time?
Thanks,

I am just starting out the last couple years selling beef. The problem is that I have more customers than I have cattle ready for slaughter. Of course I don't want to send them away so I am trying to figure out how I can get the beef to the customer and still make a profit. I was thinking...
That would be great. I don't know of anything like that around Colorado though. I am going to ask some farmers around my place. Maybe I can pay them for some extra work.
Thanks,

From what I hear you end up paying the same 'cause the mainenance on a used tractor. Maybe a slightly used tractor would be best. I was looking at the chisle and the disc too. If I end up with one of them, are they still good for regular plowing? Maybe it would be more cost affective to pay...
We rum mostly cattle but I'm thinking about plowing up about 60 acres and planting alfalfa, corn or potatoes. What type of tractor do you think would be ideal? What would be the smallest that I can get away with? What types of implements do you think I'll need? The ground is really hard and...

I do think that you would still have to have some experience.
She was worse when we got them (felt like we rescued them). She has gained a little wieght. I haven't wormed her though so I'll go ahead and do that. That calf is dragging her down too but she is still gaining slowly.
Well I haven't had a change the get the tape out to mesure them but here is a little video so you can see.

:???: – Yesterday I was talking to fellow rancher who was saying that cattle will cure themselves of sickness if there is a cold snap for more that a few days. Has anyone heard about this? Is there any information out there or is this just an old wives’ tail?
