    Persistant Pneumonia...need suggestions

Thanks Redcow... today is day 2 w/o antibiotics and I didn't hear him cough once this morning. I know exactly why noone wanted him.....but I had really good luck with my first sick calf so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try this guy. I'm 50/50 now.

    Persistant Pneumonia...need suggestions

My friend picked up a 400# Holstein steer from an auction after nobody bid on him. I have a place in the barn to quarantine so I offered to care for him a couple of weeks until he was better. Well, we are probably on week 6 now. (I've lost count) When she brought him over his temp was 105.3...

Couple of newbie question re: sending to butcher

Okay, I knew you were gonna laugh but really! I just was out there with them and that smell is hard to wash off! Common sense tells me it's not gonna be a problem but I would be really bummed if I didn't ask and we get back nasty buck-smelling-tasting meat! Glad I could help you out with a...

So will the hay belly episode affect taste? Or does it matter most how things go from here on out? He is approx 375- 400 Lbs and growing!

    A sentimental question

So, as some of you may be aware, I have fallen pretty hard for the calf I raised this summer. I know, I know! He is a Jersey cross steer. I know it is not going to be reasonable to keep a pet cow around and am coming to terms with that. But, I was wondering, what if we send him to slaughter...

Just wanted to give you all another update. My calf continues to look better every day. His belly is much more porportionate now and he has definately put on weight. I used the weight tape after my original post and he was approx 333#. Today I measured him at nearly 400#. Thanks again!

    Unthrifty Calf

Thanks guys, I did read Milkmaids post. What I am trying to do here is correct a problem. I have a calf with hay belly and am looking for suggestions on how to feed him from here on out. He is over 5 mos old now and hasn't been pot bellied until maybe the last month? What I hoping for is...

    Unthrifty Calf

Thanks again all for your replies. I measured him with a weight tape and it says he is 333#. I also weighed how much grain I am giving him and it is 2.5#. This bag is 15% protein and is an "all-stock." The previous bags were calf grower (20%) that had bovitech (or the equivalent) in it. I...

    Unthrifty Calf

Thanks for your reply Backhoeboogie. Since you have had such good luck with your bottle calves would you mind sharing your feeding regimen? What do you use for replacer? How much, often do you feed it? How long? How about grain? How much, how often? Deworming...age, frequency, preferred...
