    combine yield

I've left 13 acres of rye/ryegrass pasture out of my hayfield to combine for next year's seed. Seems to be a big secret as to yield per acre. Any experience? 25 lbs. Gulf annual ryegrass and 100 lbs Maton per acre, very healthy stand, no weeds. I've figured around 40 bushels/ac.

    seed stripper questions

Seed strippers are uncommon here in the south, so i have no idea how well they work. I'm considering tracking one down to harvest rye/ryegrass seed and bahaia seed. Anyone had experience with harvesting either? Seems you could harvest the seed and still bale hay behind them better than with a...

    Stevenson Basin Angus Sale

Boy, those hundred granders were longer than my truck. Looked pure freakish. As far as EPD's, i've been more impressed. I was browsing my bulls epd's and noticed that i was even or ahead on most of the bulls. I paid nowhere near that, of course. Do the AI Guys buy these bulls favoring appearance...

    germination on marshall ryegrass

I've planted a pasture in marshall ryegrass, always planted gulf annual before. 9 days in, very little germination of the ryegrass, rye is up great. 2 inches of rain, fertilizer and ph are right where they need to be. Is there a longer germination on marshall? I'm fairly concerned.

just finished up with our vet, we have a week and a half old colt with a septic infection in his knee. Was limping on sat, better on sunday.Today knee was swollen, called the vet. Vet said this is a infection in the joint of his knee and will probably kill him. Was a result of an infection...

    our newest two...pics

two colts born april 15 and april 18. We're thinking the light colored colt will be a dun, no palomino in the family, any other opinions? The black's granddam (stud's side) is a black, so we're thinking he'll stick.

    Scale Options & Location

You'll find it counter-productive to have a set of digital scales with ANY margin of error. This (in my experience) is not a place to look to go cheap or improvise. We run a tru test system with Tru-test's scale cage. Wasn't cheap, but there is zero guessing. The seperate cage allows for some...

    Estate Taxes

How many productive family farms have busted up into hobby farms, play ranches, pine tree farms or subdivisions due to estate taxes. I have seen more farm land lost to CRP pine trees than a Carnegie or Gates. And you wonder why my generation (i'm 24) is practically non-existent in the farming...
