    Purebred Angus Cross

I'm going to state this once and never again. Maybe some of us are new and are trying to understand xbreeding so when we see great traits of different cattle we are wondering how to combine them and get the best of both breeds. Maybe we are small time and will never be able to hunt with the...

    Hereford breeding opinions

The link I posted has an article from the High Plains Journal which goes into some detail It has taken nearly 10 years to develop a breed of Black Hereford cattle that will consistently hold the black color. "We have used the same methodology that has been used by other breeds," says Hoagland...

    Hereford breeding opinions

Here's a link if you want to read more http://www.blackhereford.com Basically, there were two approaches Hoagland could have taken in developing Black Hereford cattle. The first would have been to take an F-1 cross and breed it to a registered Angus, then line breed those cattle keeping the...

No our area doesn't have a general pot, the kids have to find each potential buyer, it can be an individual but around here is pretty much farm country and quite a few people raise their own to butcher or have friends who raise them for them so they aren't going to purchase one at a higher...

    County Shows

I'm afraid that's it  The placing animals are sold first starting off the auction and the kids get only what the animals brings. The profit isn't much for the kids once expenses are taken out. The pig he raised brought him about $100. less profit than the steer and is obviously alot less...

Local farm just had a Jersey Bull turn extremely UGLY...really tore up the barn when they got him inside...I understand they tried for a couple hours to enter the barn area he was in but his aggression was really bad...finally sent someone to the house for the gun and dropped him right there...

what breed of steer should i show

Everyone is right...depends on your level of experience, confidence, area you are in, etc. First year my son showed one of our Hereford's...nice disposition, gentle to handle, etc...didn't show well because Hereford's aren't considered showy in this area, but received higher price than Grand...

I'd like to hear your ideas/opinions, etc on what to breed our Polled Herefords to to get a black baldy, I know the general idea is Angus but what other options are out there. I'm almost afraid to tell you we have Black Hereford Semen, don't want to start a war ;-) But were open to...
