    Drought Observations

We are bad here too, in D3 quickly moving to D4. No rain, to speak of, all summer. We are feeding hay already, usually do not start until Christmas. To add insult to injury, we bought 2 loads of hay (28 4 x 5 rounds) a few weeks ago from a place we bought another 70 from in the spring. Nice...

    Composite Decking

We put in a deck with composit a few years ago. It does get hot, but we put down a piece of fake grass and we can walk on it barefoot. We love it, and have a nice fire ring out on it to sit and enjoy fall evenings with a small fire while watching the sun set.

    Drought and electric fence

Hair cut and/or pour oil down the back. Oil makes the contact better, and they get one heck of a shock (like pour on for flies).

    EVs

I bought a used Prius last November (hybrid), and love it for my commute. I get between 65 and 70 MPG on it, and drive 78 miles one way to work (we live very rural, and I drive to Springfield, MO as a teacher, so 5 days a week). I have been doing the drive for 5 years now, and got tired of...

    Show me your herd bull

We never used a walking bull before, but raised this guy from an embryo and liked him enough to try him on a few cows last spring. He is 12 months old in one pic, 14 in the other. Also, his dam is pictured. We are selling him now, since we really do not want to use a walking bull.

Here is one to scratch your head...

Thought I would update this thread, since this cow has again done something odd. This girl is a Built Right x Wide Body dam, and she has always had an embryo calf for us (since the calving above). Last year I wanted to get a natural calf out of her, since she is darn nice female with a good...

    Advice needed with heifer

Some take more time than others. No negative reinforment. We train a kicker by running a stick, or poop pick, up and down the back legs until the stop kicking. We don't hit them, we just bring the stick right back to the leg when she kicks it away. They get tired of kicking after awhile, no one...

    Lazy show heifer problems

First, I would rather have one that is stubborn to walk than one that wants to duck and drag! I would NEVER tie to a tractor, or any mechanical device. If she isn't running from you, or trying to get away, she just needs help moving forward. It is OK if your show heifer does not walk in the...

    Wood Stove Suggestions

We have a Lopi Liberty, heats over 2000 square feet with no other heat source. We have had it since 2010, and love it!

    Cull Cows on the rise

Sold two cows Monday, one was 12 and did not stick AI (just weaned so a little thin), the other was 9, had big back teats, and threw 100 plus pound calves because of long gestation. I'll take it.
