Best first cow to get to raise to breed for beef and gentle disposition. What is best age to get them? I would like to get 2 and raise 2 calves

The Wagyu crossed calves would be good prospects for feeding out for beef. You can eat a heifer as easily as a steer. They will often finish out at a slightly lighter weight than a steer. Herefords do as good as any other breed in most climates... If you don't have any experience with...

    Fancy eatin

Don't go out to eat much at all anymore... and definitely not at any fancy places as I can eat better at home... except for the prep and cleanup... People always ask me what I eat if I go out to eat...and I tell them seafood... because I have better beef in my freezer than they have in these...

    Gaffers tape on cowboy boots

@Victor ; the gaffers tape is as described... it was the tape that was used in movies for the high heat as was described... Duct tape is what many use nowadays to keep the sole on a boot to get a little more wear out of it... do it with work shoes and such also... walking like he was seldom off...

    Semi Load Out Chute

There is an old "combination" type chute at the farm where we work the cattle. The previous owner built it. Same idea as the one @cowman82 referenced. Side by side to the ground level one we load the stock trailers... gate at the end where the animals can be directed to go up the ramp for...

    Who is feeding chicken ****?

The idea of the cows eating poultry litter is to me like a dog that has to eat sh!t.... YUCK

    Who is feeding chicken ****?

Wouldn't drink it if it were the milk cows eating it, even if it smelled like Hershey's syrup added to the milk... There are a couple people in the area that feed chicken litter... that said, no, I don't believe in mixing it into a ration... not my cattle, not my thing but if it is legal and...

    Who is feeding chicken ****?

Our cows will do the same thing. We had 2 loads dumped in the "catch lot" about 1-2 acres, and did not shut the gate to the big pasture at the time. The cows came in and were eating it like it was candy... There were rolls of hay in the pasture not 200 ft away, and at the time they also had a...

    Rain

We are not getting it here either... 10 sprinkles here, .1 another day if that... Not normal for here... the big thing is that we have had more wind than we ever get... not just a breeze but enough wind to really feel it and much more constant than we normally get. Several were talking about it...

One stock I like and have put some into is PDT.... pays around 8% dividend, monthly payments... good track record for over 20 years.... Large Animal Vets are gone

And then there's @gcreekrch ... who does most everything but never got the dvm after his name....;)(y)(y)(y). We have quite a few vet practices within an hour of here... several within 20 miles or less. We use one that is an hour away... they are large animal only, I think there are 5 vets...

    Best Bull names you've heard....

There was a holstein bull who's actual registered name was Brass Balls.... Most of ours are called by their eartag number.... but one big red poll bull we had was Bubba...super disposition, quiet, respectful, never saw him breed but everything was always preg that he got put with... Not any...

    Another..."last" update.

You are constantly reminded with Gail's behavior that she is a GEM of a nurse cow....

    Another..."last" update.

If Gail continues to breed back, she ought to be good for 4-6 more years anyway... Everyone is different... she might not be able to raise as many as she gets older... it might drag her down more as her teeth get shorter and she just ages... she will not produce as much milk as she gets older...
