This morning we saw/took a picture of the calf nursing so I will post that later on, but the calf nursed for 5 minutes straight so we took that as a good sign, and I don't think that the mom is dry because her bag has always been that small, and we have seen her milk let down when she does not...

It must be cold where you live because your animals are quite wooly, but, your animals are all very pretty, I think that #1 is the best.

The little calves are quite cute, and I am a bit surprised by the looks of the 4 months old, she is very pretty.

So I did get three pictures today, and I am VERY sorry that they are not the best pictures. This first one is of the problem calf, she is nine months old: This next one is a comparison of a three month old bull (front) and then her in the back: This final one is of the mother, Suzanne:

Because it is easier and we only have about 20 mother cows, we like to only have a calving season in the spring. But, we do breed out heifers at about 18 months, so that they will calve when they are about 2 1/2 years old. We will have our heifers calve in the early fall and then breed them back...

The picture was taken on 10/20/12, so the calves were again about three weeks old. I will try to go out and get a picture of them right now, so sorry if the picture quality is bad.

No, no, no. I must have phrased it incorrectly, they are both first calf heifers at 2 1/2 years old. The other mom that has the smaller calf but that is still growing has an UTTER that looks like it is 5-6 years old. But the mom that is having this issue you have already seen above.

We thought that the reason that these moms had this connection because after being bought in Oklahoma at a yearling, and had never really spent a day without each other.

We have over 800 acres and only 50 animals, so yes, I know that she will lactate on good grass since our place is way under stocked, and second I know that she has not had a calf yet since my brother gave her to me two Christmas's ago when she was about 3 months old.
