Beefmaster question on color and dispostion

Someone told me I was missing a pretty good Beefmaster discussion. You're reaching in the right direction with Larry Buster. He's a good friend of mine, and he just so happens to have some of the breed's top cattle. The Texoma sale you watched today would've had several of his bulls in the...

    The Ideal Beefmaster Female

I understand what you're referring to now. Do you have any photos of heifers with that shape? I see the extra depth of body this cow has, but the angle of the stomach itself seems to be lost where the udder distends.

    Critique Time

That's an awfully nice calf with exceptional growth. Like Doc, I'd love to see a picture of him standing correctly. Any chance you'll forfeit 20 hours of work so you can spend more time taking pictures for us?

    Beefmaster 1st Calf Heifer Race

There's definitely not any red angus breeding in these. All of my animals have Buster Beefmasters breeding. He's been selecting for a type that commercial cattlemen can use in their herds and produce a market-accepted calf. He's a good friend, and I'm a pretty big fan of the cattle he produces.

    Beefmaster 1st Calf Heifer Race

Both cows are holding their flesh pretty well. I'd call the top heifer a BCS of 5 or a little better. The second is pretty similar but just have the same natural thickness. They'll be in good shape by calving time next year. I believe I saw the first one get bred back for another March calf...

    The Ideal Beefmaster Female

I've always wished she was juuuust a touch smoother through the shoulders. You'll have to educate me a little on what you're looking for in the lower flank.

    The Ideal Beefmaster Female

She's been getting a 2:1 salt and meal. As you can see, "lush" is not a word used to describe my pasture conditions.

What to do with F1 Tiger stripes

I'd say any good homo black, homo polled bull that doesn't have Brahman influence would be ideal to create a 3-way cross with the color and phenotype the market prefers. You could just go with a couple of Beefmasters in the place of those Tigers. They'll do then same thing and look better...

What kind of herd do you run, and why?

Beefmasters here. Why, you ask? When I started fooling with cattle, I began to notice the love many in the south have for F1 Tigerstripes. I wanted an animal with that blend, but I also wanted to be able to trace the lineage of the animal. That led me to two breeds…Braford and Beefmaster. I...

    Beefmaster 1st Calf Heifer Race

Last year, I posted 3 heifers and asked which one any of you would choose. Some liked the idea of keeping all three and letting the calves determine. Well, I sold one with a pretty nice bull calf at her side. I kept the two below. I've attached each heifer's calf, and I'm wondering which one...

    The Ideal Beefmaster Female

I think she's as close as it gets. I thought I'd post her here for a barn-blind eye exam. I know if I'm hallucinating, there won't be a shortage of folks to let me know the same.

    Young Beefmaster Bulls

Thanks Bigfoot. I try to not spend much time around any other kind. Thanks. It's a bit hard to tell considering the market and its current instability. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Lasater Ranch sold a group of 16 month old bulls and had a very good sale. This is the first time in...

    Young Beefmaster Bulls

I'm wondering what you all think of these long yearling bulls. They're both consigned to the upcoming Fall OHOA Beefmaster sale.

    Beefmaster Calves

Nice looking group of calves. I like that 153 bull calf. He looks to have a lot of length to him.
