    Cowboy stuff is fun

Yes. Muley cow. Maybe bruised a bit is all.

    Cowboy stuff is fun

These are old one and done range cows. I avoid the real snotty ones when buying but you still end up with one or two. The whole entire herd of cows will go straight to the kill plant in the middle of August. These are the late calvers. Once they get to summer range they will hardly see a...

    Cowboy stuff is fun

A couple of my cows ended up on the neighbor's place. I won't go into that long story how they ended up there. But these two witches are a bit spooky. They were there for about 10 days until the cowboys had time to go get them. A black cow and a red brokle faced cow. The red cow had a calf...

    Large Animal Vets are gone

Accordding to the numbers we just missed the list. The #7 Malhuer county is next door to us. It is a huge county with some real wild remote country. #14 is Harney county not Harvey. It is just south of us. That county is bigger than any of the smallest 7 states and has a population of about...

    Need working facility

They can be. But I bought mine at a equipment auction for $800. It was new. You just need to take your time and search. I bought a chute with a crowd alley. Turned around and sold the chute for more than I had paid so I had a crowd alley for free. The only expensive thing in my set up was...

    State line

I stopped at the truck stop at Farewell Bend this morning to use the rest room. Diesel was $0.90 more than what I paid yesterday in Fruitland which is less than 30 miles away. Farewell Bend is where the Oregon Trail left the Snake river. Just look across the river and you are looking at...

    Large Animal Vets are gone

We have more, better, and certainly more reliable vets than there are MD's. But the cows in this county out number the people about 5 to 1. Still it is relatively rare to call the vet. Ranchers and cowboys pay attention to how the vet does things so they can do it themself. The last time I...

    State line

I looked that up a while back. Idaho has a lower fuel tax but it is just a few cents. In fact if you entirely eliminated Oregon's fuel tax Idaho would still be cheaper.

    State line

I had to go to New Plymouth Idaho this morning for some grass seed. I also had some things which I normally get at D&B Supply in Baker which is the opposite direction. But there is a D&B in Ontario. Ontario sits on the the state line. The Snake River is the border. Ontario, Oregon is on the...

    Need working facility

I have about 3 flags, 2 rattle paddles, several assorted sorting sticks, and 2 hot shots. But my preferred method involves a couple of the well mounted cowboy neighbors and me sitting in the shade. When they get the job done I get them their preferred cold beverage out of the frig in the shop.

    Need working facility

We are closer than you but it is still 75 miles to either sale barn. I know of nobody here who will haul a trailer load. Unless you are talking a semi trailer load. Virtually everyone here has a trailer or 2 or even 3. Probably a quarter of them have their own semi with a cattle trailer...

    Best Bull names you've heard....

I never name bulls or cows for that matter. I thought about rodeo bulls. I saw one named Ballistic Diarrhea.

Did you eat any canned salmon in the 70s?

I have ate several hundred pounds of canned salmon. But it was all home canned. And none of it from Pinks (Humpies) which is the species that provides the vast majority of the fish to the canning industry.

Backyard grassers must have come to the sale.

We have 4 assorted pickups. A 94, 97, 2000, and 2002. Not going to buy anything newer. The newest vehicle is a 2008 KIA that has almost 300,000 miles on it.

Backyard grassers must have come to the sale.

One of the troubles is finding a pickup in 2024 that is as basic as a 1974 pickup. We and the auto industry need all these extras on our vehicles. All those extras add up to a lot of money. Dealers just don't even carry a pickup as plain Jane as the standard one was in 1974.
