Enlarged area at the front chest cavity.

I had the vet come out Tues evening instead of waiting until today, he thinks she's had some trauma / impact to that area causing severe bruising and that this is blood gathering.....so I'm concerned that the areas on both sides are getting bigger, and how long can she continue to bleed...

Enlarged area at the front chest cavity.

I'm just totally stumped and not too sure I trust what the vet will say tomorrow. Would love to find an ultrasound machine somewhere close to me. My husband would pitch a fit, but...it may be neccessary.

Enlarged area at the front chest cavity.

She doesn't have "defined" swelling" in front of her udder, but her belly is large and dropped like she is carrying the calf wrong. She keeps kicking and licking at her stomach. She hasn't shown any sign of stress, no fever, hasn't stopped eating, she is about 6 mths pregnant. In her past...

    overzealous momma

I had to first time mothers that I actually had to put halters on and tie to a barn post so their calves could suckle. After that cows and calfs were fine. It was that initial birth and excitement that was scary. The one mother I actually thought was trying to kill her calf.

Thanks Dun for posting the picture. Anyone have ideas on what this is. The vet is coming out tomorrow. (he is a young vet but only one that will tend to cattle)

Enlarged area at the front chest cavity.

I'm sorry, I should elaborate. The enlarged area is not at the brisket but behind the front legs.

Enlarged area at the front chest cavity.

I have a cow pregnant with her 3rd calf (about 6 to 7 mths along). I noticed an enlarged area at the front chest cavity. There are not marks, scratchs, lumps, etc. The swelling seems to be coming from inside. We just weened her 2nd calf (steer born 1/4/11). She is not showing any signs of...

    cattle itching

Yea know, sometimes cattle just like to scratch. All my cattle get a good butt scratch with a course brush several times a week. It just feels good to them. and...Bez, sometimes you come off as just being plain ole' grouchy!

    heifer's udder problem

we've had 1st calf heifers with edema so bad - no milk came out. We took warm water towel compress to help ease the swelling and lessen the amount of grain (or cut them out of grain completly) for a few days - the swelling would go down, milk would come in nicely.

    calf trapped in water tank

I had a very spirited black angus heifer that was about 3 mths pregnant - we were gone all day - came home, checked the cattle and she laid down the hill in the snow with half of the hay ring around her neck. She had been there for awhile because of the marks in the snow and ice on her fur...

    cattle prices

we took 600# steers to the local sale 1st week of July @ .86 a lb and thought that was good - from what I understand the price has dropped since then due to concern over hay resources.

    Foot Rot?

I thought I had one with foot rot but when the vet came out he said it was "hairy heel wart" my heifer did the same as your. the center of the hoof split area look like hairy warts. The vet gave an injection of Excenel - but we also used LA200 topically -- I've did the LA200 topically for...

    Face Flies

I haven't found anything that can be sprayed on the face . I did go to the local pet store and bought a large container of tear stain pads for dogs, it has an alcohol solution in it. I take a few pads and swipe under the puffy part of each eye and that seems to work well until it rains again --...
