    Covexin 8 at banding.

I did not say I wouldn't give a follow up dose of covexin. I may have misunderstood the previous responses but it sounded like giving straight TT was important. I have it now so I am going to use it.

    Covexin 8 at banding.

I picked up some tetanus toxoid at Wilco. So I am going to shoot these bulls with the tetanus and then a few weeks later , band them and give them a dose of covexin 8. Does this sound reasonable as a protocol?

    Covexin 8 at banding.

I just got a chute and will be doing my first ever bandings on some 8mo-1 year calves. I have read and been told they will need a tetanus shot at banding time and another 4-6 weeks later. Can I substitute one of the tetanus shots with covexin 8 to kill 2 birds with one stone? If I am reading...

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

Leg injury. She could barely walk for over a month would lay next to the hay feeder drink the water in the mud puddles close by. She just started getting weaker and weaker. She had a big turn around for about a week and was walking a lot better then one day I heard the calf crying and went out...

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

I cut him off from hay and grass because he wouldn't take milk. Now he can't get full on close to a gallon twice a day. Hasn't been eating much starter though. So today I brought him a handful of green grass to tear up and mix with the starter so he would eat the starter. As soon as he saw...

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

Also, I appreciate everyone's input. I started cow farming about 4 years ago with no prior knowledge/ experience or anyone close to me that had any. This forum has always been a big help. It is nice to learn things other than the hard way of trial and error.

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

I have cut the calf down to 2/3 of a gallon twice a day. His mom was half jersey so she made a lot of milk. He is drinking it down quick and running around looking for more when it's gone. But the cut back in milk has got him eating a little bit of starter. Probably the wrong forum but he is a...

My concern now is that he isn't touching his water and he sleeps almost all day. When he wants his milk he springs to life but pretty lethargic besides that.

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

He is drinking a little more than a gallon twice a day now. He won't pail drink but he loves the bottle now. He doesn't like the calf starter so I crushed some cattle cubes up and mixed it in his starter. He seems to like them and gets him to eat a little calf starter.

He is a good little cow. Half MG, 1/4 Hereford, 1/4 Jersey. His mom was a halter trained ex family milk cow. A big puppy basically. It was hard having to put her down. :/

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

Thanks for all of the tips. I had to cut the hole in the nipple to get more milk to flow then force it into his mouth. But eventually last night he was reaching for the nipple on his own. This morning he doesn't want the bottle. I tried warming it up but he is being stubborn again.

Also, will he need a mineral lick or will he get enough in the starter?

    Emergency weaning. Help needed.

I've got him in a 12x24 stall. I had to carry him on my shoulder a few hundred yards but I got him in here. I will get him a dish of calf starter, a bucket of milk, water and hang a bottle up. A couple questions: 1. Do I need to ration his calf starter or just leave him a big enough pale to...
