Short video of calf being born

She was up immediately as soon as I stopped recording. Took her a little bit of time to begin cleaning the calf, we've found that our 1st time calvers don't take right to that task. The heifer was actually quite normal size, bull calf is the largest we've ever had.

Short video of calf being born

I wasn't sure which forum to post this message on, so posted here and on the "breeds" forum. Wanted to share a couple photos and a video from two calves born this past August. My favorite breed is a polled Hereford and Angus coming in 2nd. We have a small herd of 12 beef cattle, (5) of those...

Short video of calf being born

Wanted to share a couple photos and a video from two calves born this past August. My favorite breed is a polled Hereford and Angus coming in 2nd. We have a small herd of 12 beef cattle, (5) of those are our mama cows and 2 Hereford heifers in the process of being bred. The rest range in age...

    1st calves of the year!

I don't post often but I do read the boards frequently and enjoy learning about raising cattle. My husband & I own a 20 acre farm which we purchased in 2007, have a small herd of Herefords (with one black baldy mama cow) that are 'just mutts' (not registered/purebred). We started with 2 mama...

    Beet Pulp as a supplement?

Some small-time farmers I know told me that they often supplement their 'soon to be slaughtered' livestock with beet pulp, soaked in water over night and mixed in with grain. I tried to research the benefits to beet pulp on the web as a supplement for cattle but didn't really find much. Anyone...

What are these on my calf's nose?

I posted this question within another topic (1st time calf-cow with small udder) but it's getting rather buried so am beginning a new topic. I noticed these little growth-like things on this 3 week old calf, this past weekend. Anything I should be concerned with?? Have not seen them on my...

1st time calf, cow not producing enough milk

Thank you kindly for the advice. I am fairly confident now about the udder & milk production and that she is fine, was just a worried 'new-calf-step-mom'! You sound like a clone to my husband...he doesn't 'love' the cows either, they are steaks & hamburger to him and yes, he says they are not...

1st time calf, cow not producing enough milk

Nope, she wasn't interested at all in sucking on a bottle! She is actually doing pretty well at this point and she seems to be growing at a fairly normal rate so I'm not as alarmed as I was last week! Sure do appreciate everyone's input. One other thing that is different on this calf than on...

1st time calf, cow not producing enough milk

I have a beef cow who calved for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. She does not have a very large udder and I am concerned that her milk production is low because the calf doesn't seem to be gaining the weight/growing at the rate previous calves have. This time of year in our area (Pacific Northwest...

Week old calf stepped on by cow, split her hoof!

Thank you all very much for the advice regarding my little heifer, I will keep a close eye on her. This is a photo of her about 2 hours after birth. http://www.allforahorse.com/summer8-22-08.jpg

Week old calf stepped on by cow, split her hoof!

Hi folks, I have a 9 day old Hereford heifer that got under foot of one of my older heifers during feeding time and she got her left front foot stepped on, slicing open the right side (vertically) of the hoof about an inch long. She bled a bit, could tell it was hurting her pretty badly. I...
