San Antonio, Texas Members of the Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association (JBBA) kicked off a new show season recently that will run through the spring of 2010. JBBA exhibitors head into the season riding a wave of momentum from a successful year in 2009.

Throughout 2009, JBBA had the largest number of entries at the major livestock shows in Texas, including the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the State Fair of Texas.

JBBA members are incredible ambassadors of the Beefmaster breed and continue to support their association proudly through their efforts in the show ring, said Collin Osbourn, Beefmaster Breeders United Director of Breed Improvement and Field Service Representative. We appreciate the great job our junior members have done for this association.

Exhibitors shined at the Pan-American Beefmaster Show and the Junior Beefmaster Heifer Show held Oct. 2 and Oct. 4 during the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. The Pan-American Show was a new addition to the 2009 State Fair.

The Junior Heifer Show had 74 entries competing for top honors. Wes Hudson, Harrison, Ark., evaluated the heifers and tapped Jacqualyn A. Cawley, Frost, Texas, as the exhibitor of the Champion Heifer. The Reserve Champion Heifer was shown by Rex West, Paris, Texas.

The Pan-American Beefmaster Show was well attended with 42 strong entries. Judge Dr. Bob Kropp, Stillwater, Okla., sorted the cattle and named Hicks Cattle Co., Rockdale, Texas, as the exhibitor of the Champion Heifer. Emmons Ranch, Fairfield, Texas, exhibited the Reserve Champion Heifer. Rex West's entry was the Champion Bull, while Abby Lewis, Scurry, Texas, had the Reserve Champion Bull.
