SOUTHEAST BRANGUS SHOWCASE SALE AVERAGES $3,799

It was a perfect day in Lake City, Florida, where the Southeast Brangus Breeders Association held their annual Showcase Sale on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Columbia Livestock Market.

Twenty seven Brangus breeders from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee brought a total of 72 lots of some of the best genetics in the Brangus breed to be sold under one roof in the Southeast.

This year's sale was dedicated to David Vaughn, a former President of the SBBA as well as the IBBA. David and his wife, Susan, have contributed immeasurably to Brangus, not only to the Southeast, but to the entire Brangus Breed.

Before the bidding commenced, two special lots were presented. The first lot, QCB MS 188A, a daughter of QCB/WAT Estancia 263X4, had been graciously donated to the Southeast Junior Brangus Breeders Association by Quail Creek Brangus, Johnny and Donna Vines, Steele, Ala., for the 2015 SJBBA Regional Show. Bids on this beautiful open heifer had been sold by the SJBBA, raising $14,750. The high bidder was a buyer group, in which the winner's number was drawn. Lightning Ridge Brangus, Tom Dukes, of Purcellville, Va., was the winner, and donated the heifer back to be auctioned. Draggin M Ranch, John and Sherry Milam, of El Dorado, Ark., was the high bidder at $2,500, bringing the total raised $17,250.

The next special lot was donated to the SBBA by Little Creek Farm, Tommy Taylor, of Alachua, Fla., to help defray cost in a 2015 Regional meeting to be held in the Southeast. LCF MS Hulk 11A, a very nice open heifer out of L & W Mr. Duke 127T, was bought for $2,100 by L & W Cattle Co, Doug Williams and Jim Latham, Mocksville, N.C.

At the conclusion of the donation lots, the SBBA Sale commenced, with 89 bidders from 10 states. The high selling lot, which generated a lot of excitement, was an exceptional open heifer, BWCC MS Righteous 129B, offered by Blackwater Cattle Co., Mike Coggins and Tracy Holbert, of Lake Park, Ga. She sold for $10,000 to Second Chance Brangus, Dr. Paul Drake, of Gulfport, Miss.

The high selling Donor Cow / Pair was Oaks Ms Specialist 803W2, offered by The Oaks Farms, Joe and Catherine Kassler, of Newnan, Ga. This outstanding donor sold to Clover Ranch, Oskar Juarez and Pepe Medina, of Marietta, Ga. Her heifer calf, Oaks Ms Armour 803B3, went to Blue Ribbon Farm, Mark Snowden, of Pachuta, Miss. The pair went for a total of $9,500.

With many 3-N-1's, the top selling lot was L W Jessie 412U, a Summit Cow, with her bull calf, CLVR Csonka 412B, offered by Clover Ranch, Marietta, Ga. This outstanding lot went to Sabal Ridge, Gretchen Kokomoor, Clewiston, Fla. for $7,000.

Bred cows were also in demand. Two lots offered by Cheney Farm, Doug and Belinda Cheney, of O'Brien, Fla., tied for high selling bred cow. MS CF 53Y1 and MS CF 331Y1, both bred to QCB Mr. Chattooga 27Y17, went for $2,900 each.

The bidding continued with the high selling Cow/Calf pair, offered by River Bend Ranch, Michael and Carol Candler, of Live Oak, Fla. Ms Real Deal 38Y and her heifer calf, MS RB Northstar 38B3, had a winning bid of $3,850 and went to Luckey Ranch, Ivery Luckey, Morriston, Fla.

Anticipation of some outstanding bred heifers generated another tie for the top selling lot. Both lots were consigned by CharNo Farms, Chuck and Norma Sword, of Williamson, Ga. Both heifers were Ultrablack, CNF Miss UB Pinelog 80Z2 and CNF Miss UB Ruth 177Z. Both of these fine heifers went to Willis Family Farm, LLC, Lake City, Fla., for $5,000 each.

Volume Buyers were Willis Family Farm, LLC of Lake City, Fl., Quail Creek Brangus, Johnny and Donna Vines, of Steele, Ala., and Hayman's 711 Ranch, Tom Rew, of Kenansville, Fla.

The Southeast Brangus Breeders Association appreciates its' members for bringing some of their best genetics to the sale, while also thanking the many breeders for their continued support of the best breed � BRANGUS.
