ABBA SPRING SELECT SALE HELD IN OPELOUSAS, LOUISIANA

The American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) sponsored Spring Select Sale featured fifty-eight lots of elite Registered Brahmans that grossed $264,250 and averaged $4,556 per head. This year's sale was held at Equine Sales of Louisiana in Opleousas on May 31, 2014.

The high selling lot of the day was a consignment by Bar W Ranch of Devine, Texas with Ms. Bar W Datapack 305/8 and was purchased by Bulls Eye Ranch of Burton, Texas for $10,000.

Other category high sellers include:

The high selling bull consigned by Lanny & Sheila Sullins of Kilgore, Texas was Mr. LS �Moses� 075. This outstanding son of +JDH Martin Manso 879/3 sold for $8,000.

Satterfield Ranch of Palestine, Texas and Three Sisters Ranch of Iota, Louisiana tied for the high selling haltered heifer consignment with Miss SNS Layla 632/3 and TSR Miss Katy ASO 61/3 respectively selling for $6,000.

A pregnant recipient carrying the pregnancy of Mr. JS Rouge 493/5 and 5M Ms. Betty Rojo 944/4 consigned by Carriere Cattle Company of Church Point, Louisiana topped the category with selling for $5,000.

Joyce Custom Fitters of Wharton, Texas consigned the highest selling Bred Cow, JCF Ms First Lady 100/1 that sold for $6,000.

Chaparral Ranch of Wellborn, Texas consigned the highest selling flush from the 2013 Reserve National Champion Cow, Ms Chaparral 102, which sold for $6,000.

Pick of ET Calves sired by CC Casanova 500/0 brought $3,500, which S Bar Farms of Church Point, Louisiana consigned.

FR Brahmans of Duson, La., consigned the high selling open heifer, FR Miss Norma Jean 278, bringing $4,300.

The Spring Select Sale was started by ABBA to provide an additional opportunity for it's members to market and purchase elite genetics. This sale has proven to fit the desired goals. The 2014 sale was attended by over 200 people with buyers from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, and Texas. In addition to the eighty-three registered buyers at the sale there were eighty-seven registered online buyers; with D&S Cattle of Kaplan, La., being the volume buyer of the sale.

In addition to the sale consignors, guest and potential buyers were treated to the �Thursday Night at the Races,� which was held at the Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino. Also, compliments of the sponsors of the sale a crawfish boil was held on Friday night that included entertainment by Lil' Kenny and the Heartbreakers.

Sale manager, Milton Charanza with Broken Triangle Cattle, expresses �the entire week was filled with great food, some exciting horse racing, outstanding cattle and fellowship; all of which was enjoyed by a nice group of Brahman folks.� He continued with, �Being part of such a successful event was gratifying and we are thankful for all of those who helped with ensuring its success.�
