Adams Ranch held their 33rd Annual Cattle Sale on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the home ranch in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Before the actual sale day began, a field day was held on Wednesday. The field day included an educational panel that discussed industry related topics such as, the use of DNA from Pfizer, consumer demand from the Florida Beef Council, and effective pasture grasses from the University of Florida at Ona. There were also pasture tours that demonstrated cow herds calved out on Floralta and other grasses.

There were 34 buyers from Florida, Georgia and Alabama who participated in the sale.

The 68 bulls averaged $3,100; a 55 percent increase from last year's average of $2,000.

For the first time, the Adams Ranch's new breed, ABEEF ($3,381) outsold the Braford bulls ($3,033).

Bred heifers averaged $1,400, and heifer yearlings averaged $732.

The highest bidder of the day was Doug Hancock of BS BEEF from Okahumpka. He paid $5,100 for a Braford Bull.

Three working ranch horses were also sold in the auction.

Also auctioned off were homemade cakes made by the St. Lucie County Cattlewomen and a trailer load of feed donated by Organic Matter. All proceeds from the cake sale and feed will go straight to the St. Lucie County Cattlewomen, where the money will be used for beef promotion and scholarships. They raised $5,000 in total.

The sale was attended by approximately 440 people.
