The Cow Creek Ranch Bull Sale and Commercial Bred Heifer Sale attracted a particularly large crowd of both first time buyers as well as repeat Cow Creek Ranch customers. Both domestic and international buyers came to Aliceville, Ala., to appraise the offering on October 10 & 11. Although financial elements generated an air of caution, buyers honed in on the longevity, value and quality of the Cow Creek Ranch product. All tallied, more than 200 registered buyers came from 14 states and from the countries of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Cow Creek Ranch, a family owned and operated ranch, has become the premier source for thick, meaty, environmentally adaptable bulls. As Cow Creek Ranch owners, Joy and Joe Reznicek, welcomed the sale crowd Joe stated, “For many years our bread and butter at Cow Creek Ranch has been producing functional, profitable bulls for the commercial sector of our industry. These cattle have been developed over the years by our family with the same goals our customers have for their families. To prosper and preserve our families heritage and our industries heritage.”
After the gavel was laid to rest, 300 Cow Creek Ranch bulls averaged $3,000 and 528 Commercial bred heifers averaged $1,202. The two-day sale grossed $1,531,400. Commercial cattlemen represented the vast majority of sale attendees who appreciated the depth of quality, moderation, efficiency and muscle mass in the Cow Creek Ranch genetic program. A total of 114 buyers took home Cow Creek Ranch cattle of which 65 buyers, or 57 percent, were repeat Cow Creek Ranch customers. The bull sale was broadcast live on RFD-TV by Superior Livestock.
Baxter Black, well known syndicated columnist, radio commentator and Reznicek family friend, entertained the sale crowd on Friday evening with his left handed sense of humor. Baxter evoked belly-laughter by shining a spotlight on the flaws and foibles of everyday cowboy life, the day-to-day ups and downs of people who live with livestock and work the land.
Mill Creek Land and Cattle Company, Puryear, Tenn., took home the high selling bull at $18,500. The top bull, CCR Sleep Easy 102T4, Lot 251, was under the watchful eye of many bidding contenders. Buyers respected this bulls tremendously deep rib and flank, muscle, moderate frame and powerful performance numbers. 102T4 will make a powerful addition to the Mill Creek genetic program.
International buyer, Genetica Del Sur of Argentina, teamed up with River Land and Cattle Company, Ft. Pierce, Fla., to purchase one-half semen interest in Lot 126, CCR Pathfinder 546T2, for $15,000. This massive, powerfully made bull had a tremendous number of admirers who were attracted to his thickness, depth of body and his overall completeness. The bull garnered even more attention with his healthy, economically strong growth, maternal, and carcass Profit Point System Index numbers.
Commanding a $14,500 sticker price was CCR Sleep Easy 6633T4, Lot 253. Broke T Ranch, Rose Bud, Ark., loaded this March 2007 herd bull on their trailer to add performance, marbling and maternal strength to their seedstock operation.
