The beef industry's confidence in the value of Fleckvieh genetics was readily apparent at the recent Quest IX Fleckvieh Sale at Dollars Diamond D Ranch near Russellville Ark. The ninth edition of the Quest For Fleckvieh Excellence posted averages of: $9,035 on 32 lots of Fleckvieh cattle; $4,325 on five lots of Fleckvieh Embryos; $40,839 on two lots of Semen; $1,808 on six lots of Commercial SimAngus Bulls and $1,442 on 97 head of bred and open Commercial Heifers, mostly FleckAngus and FleckBrangus. Cattle were sold to buyers in seventeen states (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia) Canada and Australia.

Lot 20, Gibbons Flashy, a much sought after homozygous Polled Fleck heifer consigned by Gibbons Farms of Stevensville Ontario Canada set the pace for the day. When Col. Doak Lambert dropped the final gavel after extensive and lively bidding, Kent and Glenna Dollar of Dollars Diamond D Ranch owned her with the final bid of $33,000. Another heifer that created a lot of excitement was a Dollars Diamond D consignment, DDD Pol Peekaboo S55. A Polled daughter of JRR Raffles out of IVR Peke by DDD Broadway, she sold bred to Double Bar D Make M Polled. Jim Ethridge and Donna Adams took her home to Franklin, Texas for $24,000. Dollars Diamond D's consignment, DDD Pol Tomorrow who is sired by Make M Polled and out of Broadway's Image went to Rawhide Cattle Company of Vilonia, Ark., for $18,000. RPF Lottie, a Full South African Fleckvieh consigned by Phillips Farms of Adairsville, Ga., was the first Bar 5 Harrach daughter to sell in the U.S. Prospect Hills Simmentals of Granton Ontario Canada, added her to their program at $11,500. Selling for $11,000 was the Coyote Creek Simmentals consignment, Coyote Creek Annie. This Antonius daughter will make her new home in Starkville, Miss. as a welcome addition to Mikell and Mary Cheek Davis' Little Creek Farm. The Mitchell Lake Ranch consignment, J E Shiloh, an own daughter of Sir Ro-Leo 680K bred to the Polled BFG Exodus bull, went to Prospect Hills Simmentals for $10,500.

Volume buyers of Full Fleckvieh genetics included Dollars Diamond D, Mitchell Lake Ranch, Sand Hills Simmentals of Richton, Miss. and Prospect Hills Simmental. Volume buyers of commercial Fleck-influence cattle were John Harris of Russellville Ark., Schmidt Cattle Company of Cleburne Texas and Gary Loyd of Vilonia, Ark.

Roy Schwake of Schwake Cattle Service, Sale Manager for the Quest stated that, “ the enthusiastic reception of this year's offering show's quite clearly that, even in unsure times Fleckvieh cattle and Fleckinfluenced genetics are excellent sources for investment resources.”
