An absolutely magnificent early spring day greeted the over 175 customers and friends who attended the Fourteenth Edition of the annual sale put on by the folks at Spitzer Ranch. Most attendees have come to expect a stout set of performance proven genetics and they were sure delivered a great set of yearling Brangus Bulls.

Bidding got off to a vigorous start when Richard and Elaine Sherrill, Deer Crossing Cattle Ranch, Union Grove, N.C. took home SR Cadence Warrior S702 as the sale topper at $11,000 for 2/3 Interest and Possession. This powerful Cadence of Brinks son out of a Southern Pine daughter boasted tremendous arithmetic and the looks to make everyone pay attention. S702 was “flagged” as a calving ease bull with a BW of 77# and a BW EPD of 0.4, but had the power of WW and YW EPDs of 37.2 and 63.7 with a SC EPD of 0.8 and Milk and TM EPDs of 14.1 and 32.7. Having a REA EPD of 0.45 and an Ultrasound %IMF scan of 3.39 percent with a 6.1 Frame Score sure helped to round out the math.

The Sherrill's came to the sale to buy performance with eye appeal and also took home the second high seller with their bid of $10,500 for 2/3 Interest and Possession of SR Eureka Warrior S614. Sired by Burtin's Transformer 803G3, S614 carries 5 Generations of Trait Leading AI Sires in his blood. The maternal side reads: Aces TF Wrangler 145/8 X Cadence of Brinks X Update of Brinks X VCC Dynasty102N3. That family tree provided a nicely balanced set of EPDs with BW=0.3, WW=24.1, MILK=10.9, TM=22.9 and YW=47.1. Hanging all that performance on a 6.1 Frame with an Ultrasound %IMF scan of 3.75 percent and being a “flagged” calving ease bull with a BW of 78 pounds only made the picture more complete.

Third high selling bull went to long time customer and Spitzer Ranch Cooperator Will Taylor's Bar T Ranch, Honea Path, S.C. with his winning bid of $4,500 for 2/3 Interest and Possession of SR Wrangler Warrior S638. A son of Aces TF Wrangler 145/8 out of a Cadence of Brinks bred cow, S638 posted EPDs of BW=2.1, WW=34.0, MILK= 19.9, TM=36.8 and YW=63.5. A tremendous amount of growth and power on a 6.4 Frame with an Ultrasound scanned REA of 14.5 and %IMF of 3.19 percent.

The forty-one yearling Brangus bulls averaged $2,378. Bulls sold to South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia with E. G. Palmer, Palmer Farms, Ridgeway, S.C. being the volume buyer with three bulls. As always, the Spitzer's take pride in the large number of bulls that find their way into the commercial cattle industry. Many of those bulls went into the small commercial herds of their neighbors.

A service to both buyers and sellers (Spitzer Ranch Bull Customers) is the “Black Gold” Commercial Brangus Female sale held following the bull sale. Twenty three open yearling heifers sired by Spitzer Ranch Performance Tested Brangus Bulls danced through the ring to the tune of $1,111 each. The high selling pen of two heifers found a home with repeat customer Ben Cooper, Cooper Plantation, Sophia, N.C. at $1,200 each. Another repeat buyer Charles Brown, Greenwood, SC bid $1,175 for a pen of three heifers for the second high sellers. Volume buyer was Mr. Brown with 4 pens of heifers totaling 10 head.
