For the second year, cowmen serious about better beef production returned to Gardiner Angus Ranch Fall Bull Sale to take advantage of an excellent offering of bulls ready to go to work. The average bull in this sale ranked in the top 10 percent of the Angus breed for direct calving ease, the bottom 35 percent (lighter BW) for birth weight. The bulls also ranked in the top 30 percent of the breed for weaning weight and top 17 percent for yearling weight. Carcass data places the bulls in the top five percent of the breed for %IMF and the top 12 percent for ribeye. The average of the sale bulls $value indices place them in the top 16 percent for $W and $F, top six percent for $G and top three percent for $B. The impressive average ranking of the entire offering confirms Gardiner Angus Ranch's commitment to successfully breed cattle with acceptable stature, growth and end product in mind. One hundred nine buyers from 22 states took advantage of this impressive offering.
Sunny Valley Farm, Yorkville, Ill., Square R Angus, Sandwich, Ill. and Steve Stratford, Pratt, Kansas, partnered to purchase the high selling bull, Lot 3, for $18,000. GAR Retail Product C515 is by Retail Product out of GAR New Design 80, a 2536 daughter. C515 posted a +57.44 $Beef index and ranks in the top one percent of the breed for %IMF. Lot 7, H505, another Retail Product son out of GAR Prime Design's sister, sold to Roscoe Harvell, Eutaw, Ala., for $13,500. Another high ranking bull, Lot 17, GAR Retail Product H505 ranks in the top one percent for %IMF, $G and $B. Roy Wallace, Select Sires, had the winning bid on Lot 17, GAR Predestined N5255 for $13,000. N5255 posted a 116 gain ratio, +57.22 $B, and .71 %IMF. Lot 8, GAR Retail Product T895, out of another 2536 daughter, sold to long-time GAR customer, Charlie Hoffman, Eureka, S.D., for $10,500. Kenneth Mark VanMeter, Bowling Green, Ky., paid $10,000 to take home Lot 1, GAR Predestined M505. M505 posted one of the best non-parent predictions ever at Gardiner Angus Ranch and his $Beef value of +58.90 was the highest in the sale. Although late in the sale, George Dauwel, Caldwell, W. V., purchased Lot 290, GAR Predestined N5345, a full brother to Lot 17, for $9,000. Lorna Marshall, ABS Global, had the winning bid of $8,500, on another Predestined son, Lot 25, GAR Predestined N5905. N5905 ranks in the top one percent of the breed for %IMF, RE, $G and $B.
Five bulls, Lots 18, 23, 26, 28 and 53 sold for $8,000 going to Tony Borba, Oakdale, Calif., Bill Ferguson, New Sharon, Ia., Arcadia Farm, LLC, Oklahoma City, Okla., Bob Anson, Myakka, Fla., and Larry Nelson, Franklin, Tx. Lots 10 and 283 sold for $7,500 to Allen Johnston, Okemah, Okla., and Leonard Tucker, Gove, Kan., respectively.
Ten buyers purchased 12 bulls for $7,000. Buyers include Andy Forsythe and Mike Ford, Martin, Tenn., Lot 5; Tony Borba, Lot 12; Carrol and Bryan Switzer, Bucklin, Mo., Lot 24; Joe Mayer, Guymon, Okla., Lot 48; Roy and Debbie Schoenig, Lots 55, 57 and 103; H & H Cattle Co., Letart, W. Va., Lot 56; Kenneth Mark VanMeter, Lot 69; Jack Shelton, Amarillo, Texas, Lot 70; Lots 295 and 296, Alan Jett, Laverne, Okla., and George Seibolt, Tulsa, Okla.
Eighteen buyers purchased bulls for $6,500, including Lot 4 to Jimmy Richardson, Carlsbad, N.M.; Lot 9, Gil Cowles, Rockfield, Ky.; Lot 16, Tony Borba; Lot 21, Randy Browning, Appleton City, Mo.; Lot 27, Mark Tedrow, Windridge, Pa.; Lots 38, 46 and 258, Roy and Debbie Schoenig; Lot 51, Roscoe Harvell; Lots 59, 148 and 250, Leroy Hill, Grand Bay, Ala.; Lot 147, Randy Bayne, Protection, Kansas; Lot 181, Jimmy Cox, Cassville, Mo.; Lot 184, Robert Henderson, Chandler, Okla.; Lot 284, Bob Bonham, Roswell, N.M.; and Lot 294, Randy Bennett, Plainview, Texas.
Ten bulls sold for $6,000, including Lot 6, Leroy Hill; Lots 40, 58, 83, and 93, Jack Shelton; Lots 44 and 50, Roy and Debbie Schoenig; Mule Creek Ranch, Wilmore, Kansas; Lot 291, Tony Borba.
Trevor and Courtney Hinkle, Nevada, Mo., paid $2,500 to take home the top selling Quarter Horse colt, GAR Chico. Kenneth Mark VanMeter paid $1,500 for GAR Rap Dancer, a 5/14/05 bay roan filly.
