A dreary forecast and what turned out to be a cold, rainy afternoon didn't hamper the crowd from turning out for the 16th Annual Yon Family Farms Performance Tested Angus & Charolais Bull Sale. The sale was held at the farm in Ridge Spring, S.C. on February 17, 2006. A total of 134 bulls sold, with 127 yearling Angus bulls selling for an average of $2,892, and seven yearling Charolais bulls averaging $2,229.
Topping the sale was Lot 29, a son of CA Future Direction at $7,000. He sold to Michael Morgan, from Clyo, Ga. The 2nd high bull, Lot 5, was a son of Sitz Alliance 6595 and he was selected by McDuffie Feed & Seed, Thomson, Ga., for $6,500.
Deering Ridge Farm in Kenna, W.V, selected Lot 9, a son of GAR Expectation at $5,600 as the third high selling bull. Also headed to W.V. is Lot 18, who sold for $5,500 to Luke Hunter in Ripley as the 4th high lot. Jim Lynch, Shadydale, Ga., chose a Hyline Right Time 338, Lot 51, who was the 5th top bull and he sold for $5,400.
Over 54 percent of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from the Yon performance program, with 81 percent of the top twenty-five selling bulls going to repeat customers. Bulls were sold into both Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee.
As an added attraction to the sale, the Yon's also sponsored their Open House, offering special deals on Powder River equipment, Tru Test Scales, and Stafix Fencing, feed, minerals, and animal health products.
Yon Family Farms hosts two annual sales on the third Saturday in February and on the first Saturday in November each year in Ridge Spring. You may contact the Yons to be added to their mailing list at kyon@pbtcomm.net or (803) 685-5048.
