Shelby, N.C.
Twenty progressive Gelbvieh breeders from North Carolina and the surrounding states brought a nice set of Gelbvieh cattle to Shelby, N.C. for the Annual North Carolina Invitational Gelbvieh Sale.
The offering included quality embryos, pregnant recipients, bulls, open heifers, bred heifers, and cow/calf pairs. Topping the cow/calf pair division of the sale at $3,100 was 46/46A offered by H&H Farms, Ron & Brad Hughes from Max Meadows, Va. This 11/2/99 homozygous black Flying H Extra daughter and her homozygous black heifer calf sired by the $62,500 HAD Knockout bull generated a great deal of enthusiasm with the lucky final bid going to Treble W Ranch, Joe Wilson from Abingdon, Va. Watch for the dandy Knockout heifer calf this fall – she should be quite competitive in the show arena.
The high selling bred heifer at $2,200 was Lot #28 consigned by Swinging Tail Cattle Co from Evergreen, N.C. Sired by SLC Freedom and safe in calf to FHG Flying H Extra 150D this gal found a new home at Country Boy Farms from Edgefield, S.C.
Lots 43/43A brought $2,100 and purchasing this pair was Wagner Performance Cattle, Dr. Bob Wagner from Stone Mountain, Ga. Country Boy Farms from Edgefield, S.C. brought this nice pair to town – the first calf heifer was sired by “Extra” and her black bull calf at side was a son of KCF Bennett J47.
A pair (Lot 47/47A) offered by Little Windy Hill Farm from Max Meadows, Va. left the sale ring on a final bid of $2,000 by Larry Sullivan from Robertsdale, Ala. The powerful red '99 model cow had a black LWHF Fearless calf at side and she was safe once again to the $85,000 LWHF Fearless bull for a dandy 3-N-1 Package.
Another 3-N-1 Package, offered by Ja Rich Farms from Stanley, N.C. found the attention of Larry Rodgers from Rudford, Va., for $2,000. Lot 48/48A was a pair – the dam was by the immortal “Freightrain” bull and her black heifer calf was sired by VAC Twister.
The only herd sire candidate selected for the sale was a “Carolina Classic” 11/10/02 homozygous black bull consigned by Treble W Ranch, Abingdon, Va. For a bargain price of $2,100 this guy will be serving in the pastures of Larry Rodgers from Rudford, Va.
