What I like seeing is the rebels flags flying all over some raggedy trucks and single wide trailers in a trailer park... That really makes my day and makes me smile.

Most of those folks are just rednecks Sky. The one's we need to be concerned with are the skinheads and Nazi type idiots. The more folks fuss about flags and guns the more I want.
 
TGF, you kinda nailed it. The more we focus and fuss over BS, the less we have time for things that matter. Raggin on flags, cotton, and statues (it sounds so silly when you say that all at once) diminishes the real evils out there that threaten us.

No doubt about it the skinheads and Nazi's are the real concerns the others.. Any hate group is a concern in my eyes whether Nazi or black panther or whatever.. They are nothing but domestic terrorists and should get dealt with
 
Funny story that isn't too politically correct about my friend and his wife.
Now my friend is a bit of a racist.. lets say 60% of the way there... Him and his wife (a bit softer spoken typically) were at Cabella's or something looking at shirts, when the wife calls over an employee and points at a shirt and says "Where is this cotton from?".. The clerk has a bit a puzzled look and admits to not knowing.. The wife continues on with "Because if it's not 100% n*gga picked cotton, I won't buy it, I only wear 100% n*gga picked cotton"... You should have seen the eyes!.. even my buddy was totally floored... where did this come from???

To me it has two meanings. It first is a historical piece and I love history. It is a piece of Southern history I don't support slavery but I do love the South. Second it is kinda of that rebel that lives free no rules mentality. I despise anyone who use it for racism. I've never flown one, the only flag I fly is the Texas flag.
 
2 weeks ago or so a black guy is building a house down the road behind my place and was in route to there when a group 3 -white guys started chasing him down the gravel road trying to run him off the road but did not succeed and im glad a because he was minding his business and not bothering anyone and b cause its my fences and id had to fix them. They were yelling at him we gonna get you boy and n bombs and such some caught on 911 call no one knows that truck they were in nor got the plate. I am always coming up and down that road checking cattle or whatever. Luckily for them it was not me cause they wouldn't have had to run me off the road I would have gladly pulled over for them now once I pulled over they may not have been happy campers for very long but id stop though and give them what they wanted. They were described as young guys doing this. One thing they may not know is even if they were doing it just to be funny is no games out here people are playing for keeps and doing stuff to folks because you think it is funny can get your life snatched away.

1st of all, that's a pretty scary deal right there! 2nd of all, sounds like a few real idiots. 3rd of all, I'm sorry to hear that happened to that guy. That's a he77 of a 'welcome to the neighborhood'. :frowns:
As with your last 2 sentences, sum up, somewhat, how it is where I am, if people act like that here, its with someone they know. If it isn't someone they know, its a good way for them to end up in a really bad way.

Nesikep, your friend and I would of had words. I have a good friend speaking at our cattlemens meeting tonight. Last time he came to speak a guy asked me who the......in the cowboy hat was. We had a down to earth talk right in the high school shop class. It's really a shame we judge people by color before we get to know them.

Thtat's bad but heck Sky that happened to me late one afternoon but there were four guys chasing me. They didn't hurl n-bombs or anything like that at me but they were up to no good. I finally pulled over on the side of the road to see what they wanted to do and the dumb idiots didn't bring their guns to a gun fight. I had three of them on their knees begging and the driver just sat there in his urine. I told them to leave and they did but as they accelerated down the road the driver decided to dodge bullets and when he built up speed he ran off the road and hit a mailbox which in turn busted their windshield. I don't know why they were dodging bullets because I had none because I had shot them all at the quarry early that day.

Why worry about slaves from years ago. There is around 30 million slaves in the world today, 60,000 in the USA. I kind of think they are way more important than those from history.

Almost every day I will see some pickup drive by flying the stars and bars. And I am a long ways north. To far west to be a Yankee, but I certainly see those flags around. So I don't know how well flying the flag will work if your purpose is to keep Yankees away.

Sky that is a good question and I will try to answer it as it relates to me and the people I know. First you have two camps so the sentiments are divisive. In the first camp you have those who believe the War Between the States was all about slavery. I am not in this camp nor do I know anyone who believes this but many of your professors say this is the case. But history also tells us that Lincoln said he would not free the first slave if he could save the union so that argument seems to hold as much water as they saying all the soldiers who enlisted to fight in the mideast enlisted because we wanted their oil.

The other camp, the one I belong to, believes the war was fought for state's rights. Our idea is the country should be a loose coalition of state's with each state having ultimate control of their sovereignty so we wouldn't again fall into the problems resulting from a strong central authority as we did with the english monarchy. So when I see the confederate flag I don't think of slavery but the idea of state's rights and the freedom and voice given its citizens. So when I see some ignorant white trash nazi waving the confederate flag it pizzes me off because they are disrespecting it and the very idea of what it stands for.

Woe is me, if it was only as easy to get truths in history as it is in mathematics. So there will always be two camps, maybe more! History is biased. It is difficult to get an accurate report of what happened last week, forget about 100 years ago.

It doesn't matter anyway. Slavery played a role in the Civil War. Maybe minor, maybe more so. Can anyone imagine a discussion of the Civil War without giving some consideration to the role slavery played?
